Mission tires

On our newly purchased 2005 T2075 are the ST205/75R15 Mission tires. 3 tires mfg. in early '04 and 1 tire mfg. in early '06. All four tires look "new", very little tread wear, no visible signs of aging in tread or sidewalls. Our first trip will be to Buttonwood for the June M&G. We have read some posts about tire aging and Mission tires. Other than proper pressure, load, etc. should we be scared on our first time out?

All I can do is offer my experience. I can't say they're all like mine. I have three in my garage with about 2000 miles and they all look new. One of them went flat twice for no reason that the tire man could find. The missing 4th one shredded on the New York Thruway last summer. I used the spare that day and replaced all of them before the next trip.

I've also read about people who had no problem with them for years.

I really never did find any trailer tires with exceptional reviews and settled for Hercules load range C. Did I do good? Who knows, so far so good. One thing, they take 60 psi and after a winter in the snow in the back yard they all are still at 60. The Missions were all about 5 psi low after the winter. I hope that's an indication of good integrity.

You said you read some posts on the subject, so there is not much I can add but I think if I were you I would not worry about the Missions, but more about the tires being 7 yrs. old.
I know years ago (like 30 to 55) I never cared about the age of the tires as long as they had tread on them. For me back then it was all about the cost of getting new tires.
Back in those days tires were not made as good as they are now. I remember getting flats at least once a year. Today with my 3 cars & 2 trailers I can not remember when I got a flat last, maybe 20 years ago if that.

I had Missions & put 18,000+ miles on them with NO problems at all.
I just replaced them bacause they were 5 yrs. old, mainly from reading the posts on this site plus cost is not a factor now.
I bought Goodyears Also MADE IN CHINA. I just hope they hold up as well as my old Missions.

I have to agree with the other posters on this thread and am more concerned about the age of the tires at this point in time. Although the tires may look good on the outside, they are more than likely degrading on the the inside. Base on my experience, you should really look at replacing trailer tires when they reach 5 years of age.

We really appreciate all of your responses. We were leaning towards new ones and now are convinced it's the way to go. Why worry over something that can be made right. We will start shopping tomorrow, Thanks to all. Sue & Bob.

Bob

When you start looking, try and insist that the new tires you are buying are less then 1 year old. Ideally 6 months but that may be hard to get. They have no problem selling you 3 year old tires as new. If you do not ask or insist you may get lucky or very unlucky.

Hope this helps

John

PS I too agree with the 5 year rule on trailer tires.
