It was a mortal lock, I tell ya! The 1950 needs a new deadbolt door latch.

I had to replace the door lock not long after acquiring the T-1950 because the key would not go into the top lock. Only the deadbolt worked.

The new one is a little over a year old now and I locked both the handle and the deadbolt for what I expected to be the last time before departing the campground this past Sunday. Of course, the wife needed to put one more thing inside the camper but when she tried to insert the key into the deadbolt cylinder, it would only go halfway. I had my drill in the truck but we were on a tight schedule so rather than work on it there, I waited until we got home. I fiddled with it using both of the keys and some lube but they would not go past the halfway point.

Figuring that one of the pins had broken inside, I drilled it out using progressively larger bits until I could use a flat screwdriver to turn the deadbolt and open the door. It still locks with the upper paddle lock.

I looked online for a replacement but in the reviews, I see MANY people mentioning the same issue. Worked fine for months or a year and then the key would no longer go into the deadbolt cylinder. If anyone has replaced their door lock with long term success, I'd sure like to hear what brand you have so I don't have to worry about getting locked out.

It's pretty much a household lock.

That's what they want you to think.

Twenty bucks a year for replacement locks seems excessive considering the relatively small use it gets.

On your vintage, yes, but not on something newer than 1993. Even then, the household style only applies to the outside, because the inside won't work with the screen door.

Dig, do you have an FIC lockset now? I've heard of problems with those. I've rarely heard of any issues with the Tri-Mark locksets. They are similar in shape, but I'm not sure if they are direct fit. Might be worth a shot.

Why won't this work? https://www.acehardware.com/departme...CABEgLrmPD_BwE
I think you can reuse the existing inside part with most locks.

Yes, it is FIC. I'm looking at this one on Amazon from Tri-Mark. Not many reviews yet and most are not positive. Not because of the quality but due to missing parts. I'll keep after it.

NOW I get what you were saying. Per the picture above, it's a different animal altogether.

Yes that is basically mine from a 2001.
Have had a bit of trouble on the deadbolt but assumed it was lack of use.

The original Tri-Mark on my 2000 Sunny still works great.

Just some possible help from someone in the know (don't ask how..lol) if the little pin breaks or slips out of the dead bolt 'chamber' the correct size metal knitting needle cut down will work just great!

I was laughing at mine the other day. I have a door knob lock and a dead bolt.
It seems ridiculously silly to put such locks on a trailer such as mine. Apparently, they overlooked the fact that the door is a sheet of Styrofoam between two plastic sheets. LOL

A good yank and the whole thing will come off.
