Hi Jim
What you are seeing is sun deteriorated stick on foam type insulation. It sun bakes into crumbled dust
I have repaired bad sections with the pink closed cell insulation board cut and fit to squeeze fit in place. I have pics someplace I can post later in the week if wanted
I never looked to see if you can buy replacement stick on insulation or not. Dometic might offer it. It is used to help with heat and cold loss.
Ideally you can repair it versus doing nothing. When the AC runs it is cold inside and hot outside and you loose some efficiency due to lack of I insulation. I have tried to tape to the old insulation with limited success. The deteriorating insulation has a dust on it that crumbles making it hard for anything to stick to it. If the unit was new enough, then Gorilla tape would stick, but not once the crumble dust comes along.
Hope this helps
John
