how can you tell if your hot water heater is both gas and electric?

perhaps this is so obvious and i just don't have both, because i only see propane, but from reading and the manual it sounds like there should be both abilities. i have a 4 gal atwood water heater with a blue knob.

On the back side of water tank, in the area of your bypass, there is an on/off switch if it has electric. Do not turn on if water tank is empty, that will burn out yout element.

The element is generally where the drain plug should be if you don't see any wires near where you would light it,it most likely does not have an electric option.

Mine's on the backside under the bed. You can't tell it's electric from the front. I found my switch when I went to change the bypass. I have a 6 gal.

If you have the original water heater in your trailer, it won't be gas and electric. The electric option didn't come around until 1996/97.

My 1995 has gas/electric WH. I'm assuming it is factory 'cause there's a switch in the galley to cut it on and off and to toggle between it and the microwave.

Hmm, that's interesting, that would be the CSA switch. I always understood that '96/'97 was the first year and they just had the switch to turn the element on located on the back of the water heater. Then in '98 they mounted the wall control switch in the galley area (an actual control switch, not the CSA one).

Is there a model number shown anywhere on the water heater? If it starts with GC4.... it is a Gas - Combination (LP and electric) - 4 (gallon) but if it starts with G4.... then it is gas only.
