hot water fixed, then furnace pilot wouldn't light

so i just installed a new pilot assembly for the water heater and got it to work. Yay! then when i came back inside to light the furnace, the pilot wouldn't light anymore. it almost did once, but it made this sound like a blown fuse almost, or a "zap" kind of sound at the first igniter strike, then didn't light...is it possible that water heater gas line somehow pushed air into the furnace line? or.......?

H'mm If the water heater is first in the main gas line then, yes there can still be air in the line from the water heater back to the furnace.

Do you know how the main gas pipe feeds each appliance? If you purge the last appliance in the line, then all the appliances before it are very close to being purged as only the smaller feeder line if left to be purged.

Hope this helps

John

well, the hot water heater is first in line, then the furnace then stove from what i can see. the stove just took a minute to purge then lit. but the furnace still won't light. the igniter is working, because i see a spark. but i don't know. i guess i could keep purging the line (i understand this to be just bleeding the pilot gas line), but i think that there may be something blocking the pilot light entrance. i smell gas only some of the time, and this was part of the problem previuosly. maybe more stuff got moved around...other thoughts? super frustrating because i thought that was already taken care of, the furnace!!

I would try taking burner assembly and pilot out and blowing all the orifices out with canned air then reassemble. It don't take but a speck of rust to plug an orifice
