I'm not the smartest "electrical" person here but I do believe once you disconnect from shore power your DVR will not work - your dvr is 120 and when you unplug you are on 12 volt......

Yep, DVR is probably 110V AC and when shore power is unplugged your on 12V DC and no 110V AC appliances run.

I know my DVR is 110 volts AC.

My concern and maybe I could have said it better in the OP. Can my converter be damaged, and or will I blow a fuse etc, if I connect my house battery up while the camper is plugged in. Currently my camper is plugged in, my DVR is plugged in in the camper and programed, and the battery is disconnectd.

I want to hook up the battery, because I'm also running the Frige on gas, and if the power happen to go out do to storm etc, my frige won't work because it needs 12v to run on propane.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks

Not much danger of doing damage. The converter is powered by the 110V AC shore power. When not plugged into shore power you will be running on the battery only. Plugged in you will be using the coverter to charge the battery so you can run 12V DSC appliances and you will also have 110V AC to your wall outlets. In fact you need the 110V to power the converter.

The 12V and the 110V are two separate circuits if connected properly. and can be run independently of each other.

You may get a decent sized spark when you connect the battery terminals. Won't hurt you, but will make you jump if not expecting it. Check for any gas leaks first if battery is near tanks.

The proper way would be to disconnect the power hook up the battery then plug it back in. Can you get away with it? most likely. Don't try this the other way around a charging battery makes hydrogen gas sparks are a no,no.

Charged the battery with an external battery charger yesterday, with the battery unhooked.

Will probably just go a head and unplug the camper from the shore power, connect the battery and then plug back in.

I will then have to "Reprogram" my DVR, but what the heck, I'm retired have lots of time. Mybe a little lazy but have lots of time.

Thank all for your info etc.

You might could have found the 110V circuit breaker to the converter, turn it off, connect the battery and then flip the converter breaker back on. That would leave power to the DVR while killing power to the battery. Either way should get the job done.

Jim

You know I never thought of that. I know which breaker shuts off the converter.

The reason I know is I sometimes (not latley), I would shut off the power to the converter, to save wear & tear on the cooling fans. I have the converter that the cooling fans run pretty much all the time, regardless of the DC draw.

Thanks
