Help - Basics for new owner!
Hello!
I am a new Sunline owner and I have never had a camper before and don't really know much about it. I have been trying to find a place to ask some questions, I hope this is it. The two issues I am having are: 1. I can't figure out how to open the valve to let the grey water out of the camper so I can start using the sink. (I don't have it hooked up to water, I just have a big jug that I haul in.) 2. There is a strong gas smell by the propane tank, and I think it is where it screws into the pressure gauge (if that is what it's called). I tried putting fresh threading tape on and that didn't seem to help, so I'm assuming I have to change out the propane tubing. Any other suggestions or ideas? I am living in this thing through the winter in New England, so I am trying to make it as comfortable as possible. It is 15 1/2 ft and I think it is from the 80's but I'm not sure which year or model. I will try and figure that out. Anyone that can help me with this, in particular the water, that would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Annie

Welcome to the forum.
This is the place where you will find answers. If one of us don't know it someone else will come along with the answers
First the easy one. On the side opposite the door you will find ( if not broken) 2 T handles. one for gray water (sink and bath) and one for black (sewage, Toilet water) Pull straight out toward you. Thats after you hook up drain hose.
Second issue propane leak. Us a bottle with water and a little dish soap, Squirt all fitting joints. If you see bubbles thats where your leak is. The fitting are tapered or flair fittings and need no tape.
Any time you work with gas you need yellow tape

Hi Annie, Welcome to the forum.
Yes, this is the place to ask questions. We do not consider any questions to be dumb questions since we were all new to this at one time.
If you have a picture you can post and/or the VIN number there are people here that can help identify the model. Sunline Fan (Jon) is the resident expert here in identifying Sunlines.

Thanks for your replies!! I didn't know I need to hook up a drainage hose for the grey water. I thought I could just open it and let the grey water out (using ecological soap...)
What does hooking up a drainage hose entail? Do i need a professional for this or need to go buy something? And where would I hook it into? Thanks again for the help! I am a little lost with all this!

You should be emptying into a septic system or sewer line. Should be a 4 inch pipe by where tee handles are. There attachet by simpley twisting cap off and twisting hose end onto outlet pipe. hoses like this can be had at RV stores or walmart. Also online at RV suppliers.
Dumping straight on gound could get you in trouble with EPA and stink after a while.

Hi Annie,
Send me a VIN and a pic and I can figure it out for you. Sometimes I can do it from just a pic, but there's a few years that I need to know more to figure it out.

Depending on what is in your grey tank, you can dump it on the ground. I'm not sure you would always want to however. If there is nothing awful going down your drains, you could dig a decent hole, fill it with gravel and put the sewer hose from your trailer in the gravel.

Here in the Adirondack Mountains (New York) - you could be fined BIG TIME and possibly spend some time doing "community service"!!!!
Check your local laws before dumping on the ground!

If you are going to be living in the camper, you can consider a three step solution.
1. Find a place where you can legally dump black water. 2. Black water collection receptacles can be purchased from a RV dealer. 3. However, you will need to have a way to take the receptacle back and forth to the dump site. A full container will be heavy and require some strength and a method to move about. Remember a gallon of water alone weighs about 6 pounds.

The water is heavier than 6 pounds. It is 8.33+/- . See link.
Grayson's point is....it adds up and can be very heavy. Water - Density and Specific Weight

Even clean grey tank water? I guess I could see laws like that otherwise everyone would just say it was grey tank and nothing more than rinse water I guess.
Annie, what sort of area are you staying in, someone's driveway, primitive campground, spot in the woods etc. ?

Thanks for the comments. I am staying in a very private place on someone's land and currently putting very little clean rinse water down the drain. It seems alright for now, if I decide to live in the camper longer term I imagine I will have to figure out a different system.....
