Grey tank leak
Hi All,
I have a grey water leak in my 2001 T2053. Its leaking around the drain pipe join to the tank. I figure I need to pull the pipe out, reseal, and put it back. I have completely sanitized and drained the tank.
I haven't done anything to it, yet. I'm wondering:
- Do I have to remove/clean out/dissolve the old sealant somehow? How do I do that?
- What should I use to seal it back up with? I have some PVC pipe "cement" would that work you think?
Thanks in advance.

There's not much chance of removing the old pipe cement, unless you want to try a Dremel tool...
To seal the fitting back up, you will need ABS pipe cement. PVC pipe cement will not work properly, on ABS pipe...
HERE is a thread of mine, when we repaired our black tank..

Hi,
Thanks for the info. From looking at your black tank repair, it looks like there's some sort of rubber seal or the like in there. I'm going to take a closer look and see if I have the same.

I thought it was rubber also, but found out differently. Mine was actually plastic and hard plastic, at that. Had it been rubber, I could have done things a bit different.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I did some more research, including talking to a local RV tech, and it turns out that the pipe is *welded* to the tank! Supposedly, a substance called "Marine Tex" (techs?) will do the job.

Yep, the connection to the tank is an ABS "Weld"
When I removed the fitting from our black tank, the tank itself cracked. When I made the new fitting and my "Weld" I made sure I dealt with the cracks as well.
If you take your time, you can do a great job and make the joint stronger than it was originally!
