Framing construction technique

What material and size framing materials are used in the Sunlines? Wood? 2x2?

The framing material is "soft wood" except for some more special models that where aluminum framed such as the Que and some years of the Advancer.

As to the dimensions, this changed over the years and pending model. Some of the smaller older single axle camper where 3/4 x 1 1/4" actual. The larger camper where wall studs ripped from a generic 2 x something larger board. 1" wide by 1 1/2" actual dimensions deep was used. 2 x 3's where used in many of the floors of larger campers while smaller single axle campers had ripped 1 x 1 1/2" actual floor joists. The ceiling rafters where a basic truss setup made up of 1/2" thickness by 2" wide with a top and bottom chord and 1/8" luan truss plates on the larger campers. The smaller ones most likely where something less.

Do you have a particular model and year you need to know about? This will help us hone in on what your camper has.

Hope this helps

John

JohnB - thanks a bunch! This is very helpful. It's a 2006 TS-2675. Let me know if you have any more specifics. Thanks again!

Hi Mary,

Your 2006 camper uses a soft wood framing. The wall studs are 1" wide x 1 1/2" deep. Batt type insulation is used between the wall studs. The studs are generally on a 16" center distance but this can vary by floor plan. Many times extra studs need to be added to hold up certain interior or exterior things. Like a cabinet or a window etc.

Your TS-2675 is the Tran-Sport or small toy hauler. They are built the same basic way the Solaris travel trailer line is made with the exception they more than likely have extra wood reinforcement in areas of need to support that floor plan.

The wood construction is a good material. It has been long tested over time to hold up well with the exception of when water leak goes on for a long time unnoticed. And any of the camper building materials do no do well when a undetected leak comes to be. The wood structure is very repairable using ordinary wood tools. Someone handy in woodworking can do most all repair to these types of campers.

This post is from a 2006 model which is built from the same structure. It had a water infection when it was bought, however we took it all apart, fixed it and now it is better then new. There are a lot of pictures in there of the progression so this can help show you how they are built. The model had the aluminum siding where yours has the smooth SE package of fiberglass siding. The walls, floor and roof are built the same just the siding is different.

Hope this helps and enjoy your camper. It's a good one.

Thanks

John
