Floor insulation replacement

After seeing and removing all the floor insulation in the front half of the 2653, I decided to check out the rear half. The floor in the rear is not soft and I did not remove any of it. I climbed under the rear yesterday and the Darco felt full of water. I cut a 3 foot slit in the center of it and went from side to side.

I immediately got several gallons of water and quite a bit of wet fiberglass coming out of the hole. The remaining insulation was soaked and all laying on the Darco. As the water slowed down, I looked up inside. The floor joists looked good and were dry. I would imagine that the Darco hanging so low, kept the water away from the wood. I did see, what looked like a long-ago leak, in one small area.

I'm looking for opinions on how to proceed from here. I already have to get more of the seam repair tape and fix the numerous holes I found/created, while I was working on the front. Should I cut more slits and shove foam insulation between the joists from below? I have no intention of removing the floor in the rear half of the Sunny.

If I could get hold of a foam insulation sprayer, I would love to go that route. It would act as both a vapor barrier and an insulator. I welcome any and all ideas.

If you got so much water now, where do you think the water came from? Plumbing? Roof? Overflow from the front?

I vote to put foam insulation in. Easier to work with, less messy, lighter weight, vapor barrier included in case the original barrier opens up again. Just make sure the foam insulation is sealed around the edges or it will not insulate. Air will go around it.

Gary...when we had our overflow flood, I found the same thing you did...wet insulation but dry wood. I slit the Darco in many many areas and pulled out all the wet insulation. I then left it open for 3 weeks to be sure it was dry. I bought the tape online that is specifically for this repair ..it has a peel and stick backing and matches the Darco perfectly. I got my insulation at Home Depot (for 2" studding, 15 " wide) and it was perfect. All told it was a $30 repair and this 71 yr. Old female is proud of her job!! .Took about 3 hrs to take apart and then 1 1/2 to finish it up.Just plan your cuts to be straight for ease in taping. Hope this helps..Janalee
