first trailer questions

Hi All,
Bought a 1985 20ft trailer. Its in great condition. Except for a few things. Thanks for the help with my frig. problem did not realize it took a while to cool. Next issue is the oven. stove burners work, oven pilot light works but oven will not light. Any ideas??
Next is water tank is split. Its alumnium may five -six gallon, I see there is a propane to it but no do not see any 110 volt to it.are these a combination gas/electric?????
Can i replace it with a electric six gallon water heater that i can purchase most any where????
Can i climb on top of trailer or should i be carful like i would in my attic and stay on 2x4 . Are the framed so that is not important???
Thanks Jim

Hi Jim & Laurie - it may help if you posted make and model of the equipment you are referring to...this may help answer questions about the stove and hot water heater.

In most instances you cannot walk on your trailer roof....if you want to do work on the roof, most people will "straddle" the roof supports with a piece of plywood covered with an old blanket, as to not damage the roof membrane!

Hi Jim and Laurie!

As far as the water heater goes, I am not sure if a new one would fit the opening. Check the size of your current WH and see if they match this:

Frank just replaced his older unit, with a Suburban WH. The one he bought is HERE...

He also has a great thread about upgrading his water heater.. That thread is HERE.... It also includes upgrading his 120v electrical system, to be able to handle the load. His working upgrade thread is HERE...

Please let us know what you plan to do and if you need any other help!

A 1985 coach would not have come with a gas/electric combo unit, just a gas only. I don't think the electric option even existed at that time.

The propane heats really work well the problem with a totally electric house hold one would of course be a place to plug it in it's size and the fact it needs to be upright. I believe they make a element that replaces the drain plug for the propane 6 gl. heaters. New heaters can often be bought for less then $250 on sale. As far as the roof I don't think you'll find any thing a big as a 2X4 under there.

Check inside one of the cabinet/wardrobe doors. There should be a paper with the info on it. If not, most Sunlines had a VIN plate mounted on the tongue and a VIN sticker/plate under the entry door sill...

This is what the paper looked like, in the 78 we had...

Your oven sounds like a bad thermo couple the pilot light warms the bulb up and if it works it allows the gas to flow to the burner through the oven thermostat. It's all about safety if the pilot light goes out it doesn't allow the gas to flow with nothing to light it. It may require a new oven thermostat I think it is part of the assembly.
