FIC Fastec Key Recall

Just spreading the word...I called the company (Fastec) last week to see about replacing the lock cylinder on one of my doors so I have the same key for each door. I have no idea why they wouldn't be keyed the same but whatever...when I called they let me know there was a recall for my key numbers. Now, they are sending me replacement key cylinders under the recall, for both my doors, and they will be keyed the same!

Get Replacement Key Here

How to tell if your lock is affected:
1. If your key code is one of the following: HF-304, HF-307, HF-308,HF-309, HF-311, HF-313, HF-315, HF-316, HF-320, HF-322, HF-323, HF-328, HF-331, HF-335, HF-336, HF-339, HF-342, HF-343, HF-347, and HF-349.

-OR-

2. If you can remove the key in the 9 o’clock position after engaging the deadbolt, regardless of the lock’s key code.

** Please note: If your key starts with the code CF or the numbers 9901 are printed on the face of your cylinders, your lock was manufactured prior to 2006 and is NOT affected by this recall.

Mine are EF codes (2006 model), and they are each different. I wonder if they made them different so that the bedroom could be locked exclusively and the living area could still be opened? Of course you would need a lock on the inside bedroom door to make that sensible. It's either that or the door installer just randomly picked up locks from a table.

I believe Sunline--and most other RV manufacturers--bought pre-assembled doors. The doors on our new trailer come from Lippert of all people. With floor plans that have one and two doors, it's just too much hassle to try and keep matched pairs together. We never used the front door on the 2499 as it came in on the rug in the bedroom so it never bothered us having two different keys. If someone regularly uses both doors it would be worth ordering one new lock keyed to match the other.

There is also a Sticky: RV Deadbolt Recall in Sunline Community.

I got frustrated with 2 different keys and it seems I picked the wrong one 65% of the time. ... yeh, the odds should be 50% !!! A few years ago I replaced one cylinder pair to match the other so now I get it right 95% of the time.

None of mine were on the recall list or failed the deadbolt test.
