There should have been a tag over one set of screws on the new GFI. Now here is where it gets a little complicated the power coming into the GFI goes to "line" the outlets beyond the GFI are on the "load" side you would have had to remove the tag to install those wires. If they are reversed it will not work properly. It is easy to screw that up because the GFI can easily be turned the wrong way when you wired it. Where you stand now I would suggest swapping the wires. The black wire will go on the copper colored terminal the white on the silver one. Don't forget to unplug first!

There was a yellow strip across the bottom screws.
I am pretty darn sure I connected the white wires to the same side they were connected to on the plug I took out but maybe not? Does it make a difference the order of the wires? Should one white wire be connected to the top screw and other the bottom or is it just the correct side?
I will try swapping the lines but I just don't have it in me right now. It was a bear taking the older one out and new one in cause of location.
The old one had white wires on one side and black on the other. Does it matter the order of the wires on each side? If one white wire on the old GFI was on the top screw, does it have to be that order on the new one?
Thanks for the reminder to turn off power but I always turn it off at the post and I turn my battery off too!

There are 3 wires coming out of the romex (the flat part of the cable) an in and an out two romex wires. One romex on one end the other on the other end except for the bare wire (the ground) they will be landed under the green screw together or they may be fastened together all ready with only one wire that's OK. The bottom line you will need wires under 5 different screws. The order does matter but without know which one is which you are only guessing and that would require a meter and playing with live power. If it is wired correctly black on the top one and the bottom on the same side (copper color terminal) and the white on the top and bottom on the other side (silver terminal) then you need to swap them top to bottom.

Romex?
bottom line you will need wires under 5 different screws.
Ok you lost me here....
When I starting removing the old GFI there were two black wires connected on one side and two white wires connected on the other side with the ground connected at the bottom (green) See picture
So IF I am understanding your answer to my question it does not matter which wire is connected on a side, top or bottom what DOES matter is that the wires are on the correct side. black on the top one and the bottom on the same side (copper color terminal) and the white on the top and bottom on the other side (silver terminal)
Correct?

OK if that is what you have it is wired correctly but here is most likely your problem, the "line" and "load" are reversed. So try swapping the top wires with the bottom wires in the exact same manner. You can leave the ground wire right where it is. Just swap them one at a time on both sides.

Ok that is what I was asking. Switch the wire that is now on top with the one that is on the bottom.
Thanks!
(BTW there is no silver terminals, all of them are copper)

One tip. after swapping wires leave GFI hanging and try before reinstalling back onto wall . Saves work if it still wrong

I know this sounds dumb, but make sure the GFCI is not tripped. Ask me how I know.

There should be a different color check the screws, it looks right in the photo because the screws are copper or if you will gold color holding the black wires.

I always think of it as Brass screw Black wire - White (silver) screw White wire.
I have never seen an outlet or switch that had the same color screw for the hot and neutral wire, there is always a brass (gold, copper) and a silver screw terminal.

Alrighty then...I am in Austin now visiting a friend, when I get back I will tackle it again...
Then there is my antenna ...it doesn't want to store down in the correct position. One of the "wings" is hanging off the roof. I got it so at least it only a few inches of the roof in the front, buy its still not correct. I think the spring needs to be replaced but who knows? I was thinking of just replacing it one of thos stationary ones (King?) that does not have to be cranked up and down if not to expensive.
I know there was a thread here somewhere about someone replacing theirs with the stationary one. Need to look for it

I was installing one and it was tripped, but the rest button was in. I spent way to much time troubleshooting , everything but checking the GFI because the reset button was stuck!!!!!

It was the new one, so it got exchanged. I was just ticked at myself for spending so much time troubleshooting, when in hindsight the problem was pretty evident.

Oh Happy Day!
ALL outlets working now
I had the wires on the correct sides, "Brass screw Black wire - White (silver) screw White wire"
However, I had didn't have them in the right location, load line etc
So I just switched them and voilą ,electricity!
The only little thing that went wrong was I screwed one screw of the main plastic plate in too hard and cracked it but sealed it with Kwik Seal Plus, an adhesive sealant for kitchen/bath.
THANKS so much for all your help. You guys are the best!
Merry Christmas
