Door Repair

Hi Gang, Well I got my door and screen re done, I just have one little question. on my 1985 18.5 camper the styroforam had deterioated so I replaced it with New styrofoam. Of course me with my like of mechanical skills I failed to check the thickness of the old styrofoam. My question is is it possiable to fill the door out a little more with spray foam stuff. to where the door would feel more firm. I need some input on this . Thanks.

HI Lewis,

Think I'd go to Home Depot/Lowes or a craft store and buy some more styrofoam. I believe they carry it in assorted thickness. Using that spray foam would be VERY hard to control what thickness you got.

The guys might come along with a better idea.

Kitty

Lewis,

You may be able to find some foam panels at Home Depot (or similar) that are the right thickness to fill the void.

Also, check the section where they have foam panels to go under vinyl siding. That material is very similar to the rigid foam that you have already used, but is pretty thin, perhaps 1/4" or so. A layer or two of that might work, too.

I filled a bunch of our walls with the spray foam

Here is what I learned after a few different trys

If you use the stuff that advertises Double Expansion, it will actually bow the wall out, so I stopped using that

I now just get the normal can that is normal expansion. I make sure I leave the screw out of the wall which is where I put the straw into

This allows any of the excess foam to come out that hole. Give it a day to dry, and cut with an exacto knife anything that foamed out the hole, put the screw back in and you're good to go

I cant be held liable for anything that happens to your door.
