I agree with Jim, that does look like one of the alternate thermisters. I have a spare one but never installed it, it's a spare. Follow Jim's mounting suggestions.
That said, if the thermister goes bad, the fridge will go into survival mode or limp mode so to speak. Since it does not know what the temperature is, it goes into full cold mode non stop.
If you have an ohm meter, you can test the thermistor in a glass of ice water.
Also if the sensor connection is loose going into the control board, that can cause the same problem.
Are you electrically friendly and have an ohm meter? If Jim's mounting suggestion does not help, let us know and we can go into this deeper on the troubleshooting.
