DIY Shower pan
The shower pan/toilet combo in my '81 12 1/2MC was such a disaster that, sadly, I ripped it out and threw it away. I'd post pictures, but I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's lunch.
There are amenities I can live without, but I'd really like to have a shower and toilet, so I plan to put in a new shower pan and use a self-contained toilet that I already own.
The shower stall is tiny, 23x32. I found a correctly sized replacement, but balked at the $175 price tag. So here's my plan for the pan:
I purchased a heavy-duty, 24" x 36" Mortar Mixing Pan for $13. I will cut off the lip to achieve a perfect 23" width. I can easily modify the end of the shower stall to accommodate the extra couple of inches of length. Drain, additional plumbing hardware and some flashing should cost no more than $20. I'll a floor drain, build a wooden frame for support and install the pan on foam to gain a slight pitch to the drain.
Anyone ever attempt anything like this before? I haven't found anything online, at all. But it makes so much sense, I can't not try it. I'll be taking pictures as I go, and if it works out, I'll post it.
