Centurion CS3500 Replacement

After I have searched and reviewed all the posts concerning trouble shooting power converters, I have concluded that mine is defective. I understand that Centurion is no longer in business so who can tell me what model is equal to and where to buy a replacement unit? My unit is a 2000 (year) model CS3500.

Hi Forksville1, Welcome to the forum.

I presume your converter looks like this one below. You do need a battery connected to the output of the converter before it supplies any current.

There are a few here that have replaced this and I expect they will chime in with what they used.

Yes, that is what I have. I have spent several hours on the net tonight and cannot find a direct replacement. I am hoping someone can help identify what model will work. Thank you for replying.

Here are a couple of links that may help a bit:
Centurion CS3000 Replacement

http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...ter-13039.html

There is another thread I haven't found where someone replaced the converter guts but had to enlarge the Centurian box because the replacement board was deeper than the box.

I know others will offer some better help and can direct you to their replacements.

How did you resolve the problem with the Centurion. I'm having a problem, 5 of the 110 outlets stopped working I believe the power distribution may need to be replaced.

Hi Terry, Welcome to the forum.

The Centurion converter is only for making 12 volts DC from the 110 volts AC from the shore power. The box does also have the AC circuit breakers that feed the shore power 110 volts to the outlets and the converter.

If some 110 volt outlets are not working and the citcuit breaker is not tripped then one of the GFI outlets may have tripped. I am guessing you have a 2362. If so there are 2 GFI outlets that control all the other outlets. One in the bathroom and one in the kitchen to the right of the sink. Try resetting those.

Centurion problem

Gene,
MacDonald's RV said there was no power to the bathroom GFI plug in bathroom.
They removed the Centurion to check, didn't find anything and reinstalled it. The discovered there was then power to the plug. They replaced the GFI plug but the next day when I went camping it was dead again.
Any ideas?
Terry McGinn

Direct replacement, no, but a Progressive Dynamics unit is the popular replacement. Basically you'd remove the old one, mount the PD behind where the old one was, connect everything, and then put the old converter back in the hole. The PD is a much smaller component, so there should be plenty of space for it to go behind the old one somewhere.

Terry, MacDonalds used to be a Sunline dealer so I would expect they would be a bit familiar with the wiring. It sounds like you have only an AC problem not a converter problem. The top left section of the converter box is just an AC breaker panel like you would have in a house. (see pix below) If you remove the 2 screws holding the front panel you will see the wiring.

WARNING: Observe ALL safety precautions when working around live AC wiring.

You can try:
* reset the circuit breaker - turn it off then back on again, firmly.
* measure the 110 volts out of the circuit breaker at the screw terminal.

After unplugging the shore power cord:
* make sure the screw terminal holding the wire is tight at the breaker.
* check the wire at the back of the bathroom GFI outlet, it may have come loose. (note - RV outlets don't mount in a box like house outlets.)
* look for anything at the connections that looks nicked or broken.

If you are not comfortable working with AC and measuring voltages please ask someone that is. Above all, be safe.
