Brakes weak on right side

When brakes are applied the left front wheel locks up. The rest of the brakes have very minimal braking. With controller set at 5.0 - 5.0 volts is present at the left front brake. From then on voltage diminishes to remaining 3 wheels. Left rear is 1.37.

Has anyone split the wiring harness to left and right brakes with a 12 gauge power wire to feed the brakes on the right ?

Pull the emergency pin and see what happens to your voltage.

If you are losing voltage right after left front brake the first thing I would look at is the crimped on wire nuts between left front and left rear. Then left front to right front. Corrosion or not completely broken wire could be the problem. Your left front feeds the right front and left rear which then feeds the right rear.

Quite some time back, JohnB had some excellent pictures and description on how he rewired his brakes with a split feed from the center near the front axle.

To the split the harness question, yes I have. See here. I went no 10 gauge.

Now to the problem short of a total rewire

Odds are high you have bad corrosion in the connections or possible the wire in the axle tube is brittle, cracked, chaffed, wire exposed from insulation and doing a partial ground out of the connection.

Here is problem area 1

Problem area 2. On mine they spliced in the power feed and stuffed it between the tire and frame. And the ground wire is there too for the rear axle. Nothing like having road wet and yuk land all over ones brake connections....

You might be fighting a bad ground pending where you took the voltage. The brakes are wired to a frame ground. Even if the hot wire is good, if the ground or connection is all corroded it cannot complete the connection.

Good luck. Since hubby came back with all those good voltages, he can hunt this one down with some pointers on where to start the hunt.

John

Let us know what you find. Always good to confirm the same problem is occurring again or learn something new!
