Battery Winterization

I need a refresher on what to do with the 6V golf cart batteries in our trailer. These batteries are buried in the nose--I need to remove at least one propane tank--and they are big and heavy to extract at a very-hard-on-the-back angle. Since I also have a Progressive Dynamics converter with Charge Wizard, I'm tempted to just plug the trailer in for the winter and leave it. On the 2499 I've always removed the battery to the garage and put a Batter Minder type of de-sulfating charger on it. But on the truck and lawn mower I just leave the battery installed and also put a de-sulfating charger on them and that has worked fine for years.

So, what's the wisdom of the battery gurus?... leave them in and let the Charge Wizard do its thing or take them out and put them on a Battery Minder??

My battery has been on the Progressive Dynamics Charge Wizzard constantly for about two years now, this is the longest I ever had a battery!!

Same here I just leave it plugged in charges both of mine just fine you do not want your batteries to discharge over the winter a dead battery will freeze.

Henry, I have the desulfating battery minder plugged in 24/7 when not camping and the camper is outside. I have a box setup to keep the weather out of it. Then when we are ready to head out on a winter campout we are good to go.

Your PD converter will drop into float mode and desulfate every so many hours. Your good to go.

Some day when you get to the batteries.... get a pigtail to go on the battery terminals and let it hang outside. Then plug your C tek unit in that is inside a plastic container. I'll have to take a few pics of mine. This gives you the option to not have to run the PD all the time and get the benefit of the C teck pulse desulfater and save a little electric in the process. The PD which is still great does not use the pulse method for desulfating it uses the older raise the voltage for a time period method.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll stick with the Charge Wizard in season and the Cetek maintainer during the winter. The propane tank cover looks pretty secure and should have room for the Cetek so I may get by without any other weather protection. The first blowing snow will tell.
