OK you lost me there. The red wire should be the load side but not guaranteed to be red but usually so it should only have one #8 wire. There are two ways to wire the brakes one connect it to the same battery wire on the switch or to the + post at the battery. The switch should completely turn off the camper voltage despite what is connected the the line side. The caveat being plugged in because it back feeds the system another thing to remember if you want to change the battery while plugged in you will need to have the battery switch on.

I believe you're referring to the discussion about the breakaway switch for the brakes. My epiphany has nothing to do with that.

The disconnect switch as currently wired absolutely isolates the battery + terminal from the camper. But plugging into the tow vehicle energizes the 12V buss in the camper--which I didn't realize until this weekend. Hadn't made the logical connection that has to happen in order for the TV to charge the battery if the switch is on.

OK I get what you are saying now yes the TV wire is fused 30 amp and is inline and for obvious reasons that should not be on the switch otherwise it would be easy to forget to turn it on. I guess what I was trying to point out with the brake wiring was it would be possible to put it's wire on the wrong side of the switch if there was a lot of rewiring going on.

Well, you're right in that respect. My breakaway is on the wrong side of the switch; just haven't gotten around to correcting that. NBD unless/until I forget to turn the disconnect on when towing.
