Battery Box on T2363

I just want to give everyone a heads-up on a problem I had on my 2363. I was checking the charge on the battery, since it was on a battery maintainer over the winter. The charge level was a little low, so I decided to do a closer inspection of the battery itself. One of the cells was low on water. I came to find out that there are two holes through the side of the battery. There are plastic loops on the outside of the battery box for the strap, that are fastened by screws. Well the points of the screws puntured the side of the battery. I replaced the screws with small bolts & nuts. The head of the bolt is on the inside, and I put foam weatherstrip tape over the heads, so that I don't have the same problem, again. I assume that all Sunlines are set-up the same, so check your batteries.

Thanks for posting, I'll have to check mine. I'm not sure if I have the same battery box. If I remember correctly the strap slots are on the top and the top just slides over and sits on the box. I don't think my straps are attached to the box. But I'll have to check it out.

If you could post some pictures on the mods you made and the type of battery box you have, it would help in understanding the specific issue.

Thanks for passing this along. The scew points can be a real issue bouncing down the road. And expensive. Ouch!!

To your point about all Sunlines being the same, well no, not all. Actually I do not know if Sunline themselves actually installed the battery case. It might be the selling dealer installed them as part of the delivery setup. And at least they did drill 2 drain holes in the bottom to let any water out. If not they can fill up to the top from rain water and kill the battery that way.

See here pic’s of mine. I asked for a heavy duty Marine battery from my dealer and said I had no issues paying a little more for a better one. I was not educated enough then and they gave me a smaller group 24 battery in place of a group 27. The Group 24 the battery is smaller, less amps etc. It works, but when it dies I will put a Group 27 in place of it.

And on my TT the battery case is strapped on. No bolts. I had to replace the weak strap that became sun fried and cracked almost apart. The case is an Attwood Sea Guard Battery Case.

Found this online which is what the original strap looked like.

The problem I had this 24 series case almost flops thru the battery rails. Not quite but almost. So I had to add a piece of pressure treated plywood under it. See here on my TT.

Hutch, we have that same type of battery box, and I had posted somewhere else on the forum awhile ago, that they are sealed except for the vent hole in the top.

Make sure you take the batteries out and drill some drain holes in the bottom to allow rain water to leak out.

After driving through two days of rain, I was checking something up front and noticed that all four boxes were filled to the top with water!! Since I drilled the holes in the bottom, I havent had one problem.

I tried to post pictures of my battery box , following the instructions that JohnB had on the Sunline Community forum , but it wouldn't work. If you go to mastermolder.com that is the one that I have. click on specialty items/customer service, then go into group 24-2, group 24-4 or group 27-31 and you will see the strap, loops & the stainless steel screws. Picture the loops screwed onto the battery box about halfway up the side, and the points of the screws are inside, aimed right at the side of the battery. I feel like I should contact mastermolder & see if they will buy me a new deep cycle battery!

Those little strap holders I think are suppose to go to the frame not the battery case. But that may be the problem you have, they don't

Hutch & JohnB; The battery box on the bottom of John's last post is the one that I have, ( Group 24). The loops are fastened to the box. I don't know who put them on that way. John, my son was here today and he couldn't figure out how to get pictures onto post either. Tried to cut and paste, but, that didn't work.

To post a picture, your picture must first be on a web site/page.
Sunline Fan and JohnB told me about Photobucket as a place to put pictures. Or you can post them to the Sunline Photopage.

Once you've up loaded your picture to a web site then you can post a picture using the "[img]" and "[/img]" command (without the "") around the web address of the picture. The web address is the "http://........./filename.JPG." (again without the "")

To get the address you can right click your mouse on the picture, select "Properties" from the menu, then copy the Address (URL) listed in the Properties window. Copy the address by highlighting it then pressing "Ctrl-C" or Right Mouse Click & select Copy.

Then past the URL address in your post by "Ctrl-V" or Right Mouse Click & select Past.

But the key is that the picture must be on the web.

You can't post a picture that is located on your local drive and you can't copy and past a picture from your local drive.

Hope this helps clarify things.
