30 amp information

I am rebuilding a 1985 Sunline. I do not understand about the 30amp cord, and long an extention cord I can use. Does the thirty amp run all the stuff in my trailer?

30 amps is the rating of the cable. I have the same in my 87 T1661. It runs to the circuit breaker box / fuse box inside the camper. I've had mine hooked to a 200 ft industrial strength extension chord a few times already and had no problems. Of course I had to get the 30 amp /120 adapter for the end of the cable. I've ran the air conditioner, a bunch of lights, everything worked fine. Just need to be sure the extension chord can handle the load. There's a rating tag on the chords that should tell the maximum load capacity.

If you have a 12 volt inverter that's hooked up inside your camper, the chances are your system is like mine and will operate off battery power or off the direct electric connection.

Most campgrounds offer 50 amp, 30 amp and 20 amp service - necessary for todays RV'rs power needs (AC, Microwave, Electric Hot Water, Sat. etc.) If you are a heavy power user, always opt for the 30 amp service. The 30 amp to 20 amp adapter (available at RV Supply Companies) cannot handle heavy loads (overheats the connection point - trips the campground breaker.) 30 amp extension cords are also available at most RV supply stores in varying lengths. I installed an exterior 30 amp receptacle at home near my camper parking spot.

If you don't have an AC or many 110/120 appliances you should be ok with 20 amp service (using the adapter.) The interior lights, range fan, bath exhaust fan are 12 Volt components supplied by the 110/120 to 12 Volt Power Converter or on board external battery.

Just a small note: The 30 amp cord and any extensions should be #10 size wire.
