Well was going to be much further down the road on my repairs however I didn`t anticipate a terrible little stomach bug. However I am on mend and we are making plant to go to the Tin Can Trailer Trot at Tybee Island this weekend.

Does anyone know whats underneath this. It is the corner trim on mine and before I go ripping into it I would like to have some idea of what it is.

That plastic will pull out of the channel and there are screws underneath.
This thread has some good pictures:

I looked at that thread but the corner trim looked different than mine. So all I need to do is work the plastic out with a small flat screwdriver or something and take the screws out and take the trim off.

Yup. Grab the bottom of the plastic, there is likely a screw in each end of it. The top end screw is probably under some sealant, but the bottom one usually isn't. Grab the end and it will pull out easily. Screws hidden underneath. There will be putty tape between the camper and the trim so go slow (the trim bends easily) and work it off carefully. A putty knife works great.
Don't worry...no room for snakes behind that trim

THANKS Scott I was going to go about it all wrong I was going to start to pry it out of the aluminum track in the middle and work it out from there. So it will pull from the track sort of like a belt coming out of a pair of pants or something just remove the 2 screws and pull it out from the bottom?

You can start in the middle too. Either way is fine. It will pull out , it won't slide out.
This is basically the profile of that aluminum corner piece:
This is the stuff you are removing to reveal the screws:
This is pretty much the same thing just a little different profile with the same plasitc insert. This is a picture reinstalling it, but should help paint the picture:

Probably won't "break"' ..and if done on a warm day it will just peel right out..do it from the bottom up,remove the screw, and then pull it out at an angle,..however..I would sure replace it with new, white, easily replaced vinyl. You can buy it at any rv dealer,25 ft roll, and very reasonable..Janalee

Well guys that center strip was as hard as times in 1929 it broke into several pieces but if I can get a new center from the RV place I am good to go. I can replace the corner woodwork now and recaulk and seal the corners. All that was in the corners inside were the screws up to about 2 ft all of the wood was gone so I am replacing all of that too. I will go back with stainless screws but what kind of sealer do I use and where can I get it. Thanks Skip

Use putty tape when you reinstall..that's what seals it...it is also at the rv store when you get the vinyl..or you may find both online..to remove that old putty tape, use a flat blade pushing from the inner edge toward those cut edges-I would use possibly a nylon kitchen spatula -less chance of damage-then mineral spirits will clean off the residue. The vinyl insert is quite reasonable... I donīt use putty tape full width --I just peel some off and make a "snake" by rolling it in my hands like PlayDoh!.or it is usually far too thick. You are doing a good job! Hope this helped..Janalee
(P.S. remember-we all have our own methods so others will be along..)

Skip, See Scott's thread, he just did this. http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...tty-15557.html
My method is butyl sealing tape first, once it flows out and trimmed you can seal the exposed edge Dicro non leveling RV caulk. It is a little tricky to work with, but it does not harden, flexes, you can get it off without ill effects. Practice with the caulk before doing the camper. I masked off about 1/4" from the seam and went light on the caulk.
They sell both on line or at RV dealers. What you have on the camper now is putty tape. It works but it dries and cracks over time. The Butyl costs a few dollars more but does not dry out in the seams like the putty tape does.
What ever you do, do not use silicone based caulk. Wrong place for it and it will mess up your planned paint job.
Hope this helps
John

You do the same thing on all the door and window flange seals. They need it too.

Ohhhhh yes RTV is not your friend on something like this. I only use it on a few engine applications like a water pump gasket or thermostat neck but that's about it. I have built several antique aircraft engines that only used a piece of silk thread between the mating halves but now a days I use an anerobic sealant called Gel Seal. I can replace the wood in the corners now and reseal it with the good stuff.

hi skip, i'm glad i looked at your post. i have this same trim and in the same condition and i'd still like to do more re-sealing on the exterior. now i know how to do it
wow to your project! i've been remodeling my 1980 camper over the last year and a half, and there are still times when i would like to gut the whole thing like you did. it sounds like you will have a great end result. i've been waiting till i feel like it's at an end point, at least for major things, until i post pictures, and i'm close and ready to share the work i've done. in the next month or 2 my remodel helper will be here and we'll get to a good point on the exterior. good luck with your work. you have a great work space.
noralee
