12v relay questiond

Hello!

I’m an aspiring Solaris owner and have been looking to buy my first travel trailer.

Looking at one now, the owner is saying there is a problem with the ‘12v relay’.

He has told us a surge knocked his 12v power out.

As I’ve never owned a trailer like this before, can anybody give me information about this problem?

Ideally, this issue would be a relatively low cost problem, that would be a project I could learn to fix myself.

Thanks, sorry for being vague!

Actually I have new information that made this less confusing, it is actually the power converter that was blown in a surge.

Again, is this something difficult or easy to replace? If I add solar, is that separate from the power converter?

Depending on the specs, a new converter will run you around $150-300.

Replacement isn't difficult if you have an electrical (better yet, electronics) background. There will be something like a dozen or so wires you'll need to disconnect and reconnect, and the layout of the connection points is likely to be different.

If you're not familiar with that sort of work, you might be better off having it done by someone who is.

Solar is used to charge the battery when the converter has no power to do that--and then all of your 12V circuits are powered by the battery.
