T2490 turn signal bulbs?

What bulbs are a 1991 Solaris T2490 supposed to be used for the turn signals and brake lamps?
I put 1157 and apparently these are incorrect? I am having issues with my brake controller and turn signals. Thinking it might possibly be related to installing the incorrect bulbs? I don't have the old ones I took out.
When lights are on and signaling turning my brake controller is activating on tight turn. Not signaling at all on left turn
and brake controller seams fine?
Any ideas? Thanks.

Probably the 1157 bulb is the correct one.

The brake line is not connected in any way to the tail lights except they share a common ground at the 7 pin connector and the frame of the trailer. What could lead to thinking the brake controller is interacting is that stepping on the brake pedal both activates the brake controller AND the stop tail lights.

The most common problem with screwey tail lights is a grounding problem. The 1157 bulb has 2 filaments, one for the turn and one for the stop. You need a good ground at each socket and at the tow vehicle side of the 7 pin connector. Never depend on the metal of the hitch to provide that ground.

If you don't have a meter, one easy test method it to turn on the directional or 4 way flasher and watch the bulb filaments. Then take a long piece of wire with one end connected to a good ground on the trailer frame and touch the other end to the outer ground shell on the bulb holder.

Bad grounds can really make lights go crazy. I had one time when using turn signals would make all clearance lights flash. Looked pretty but lights didn't werk right until I fixed a good ground for the camper to the tow vehicle. The ground that looked good, wasn't. Cleaned ground between TT and TV and all werked well again. Hope your problem is as simple.

Thanks, I am thinking I have a ground issue with my tow vehicle . I will post a follow up later today after I get a chance to look further into it. Thanks for the replies.

After tracing and cleaning every wire on my tow vehicle wiring harness and doing the same on my campers 7 way, It is now ready to go. Also learned not to mix up reverse bulbs with the turn signal/brake light bulb. Defiantly affected my lights and brake controller. Anyway problem solved,

I might be wrong but I think stop/brake lights are polarity sensitive. I mean one element is brighter than the other. I rewired a new light not paying attention to the wiring. Lights worked as they should but one side of camper was brighter than the other. I swapped the wires and the new light matched the other side. I might be wrong though.

You are correct Jim, one element is brighter than the other.

It just doesn't work well when you put one of those 1 button bulbs into a 2 button socket.

Yes, this is correct. The brake light has a higher wattage rating and burns brighter. Putting the tail light on the brake light wire will just fire up the higher wattage bulb. Not really polarity sensitive in the true sense of the word polarity.

The tabs on the base of the bulbs are located so the two element bulbs can only be installed in one position without damaging the light socket or the bulb. Single element bulbs have tabs placed so they can be installed either of two positions. These tabs on the bases of the lightbulbs do make them position/socket sensitive if not polarity sensitive.

As long as the problem got solved then all is well.

We are in lot 10 by the road and about a 100 yards from the water and dump station. My buddy and I drop off this weekend and mow the grass and get set up. Usually hit up the casino and go out to eat and then go home Saturday or Sunday. I will be returning for the race on Wednesday and staying until Monday.
