Sofa bed in 2075

Good Morning.

Would someone be kind enough to tell me the length of the sofa in the 2075? Is it 72"? Long enough for a 5'8 person to sleep on?

Thanks,
Sheila

Re: Sofa bed in 2075

Sheila,

The standard size sofa/sleepers that Sunline used extensively in all their models are 72" of seating/sleeping length. They were mostly manufactured by FlexSteel.

The big drawback to many of the RV sofa/sleepers is the center valley when laid out flat. Unlike sofa beds for home use, the RV units are just the seat and back laid flat and the "valley" is pretty much unavoidable.

In some older discussion threads here you will find some really good ideas for coping with this problem. Best one I saw was to remove the sofa sleeper, install either a standard twin or standard double mattress and fix it up with pillows and covers to make a "day bed" style couch which quickly converts to a quality sleeping area.

Most models do have a 72" sofa, but some (like our 2753) have a 66" flexsteel sofa. Unfortunately I don't know what the 2053 has.

Hi, Steve.

Thank you so much! Yes, I have been reading all the posts about the 'valley' and the way to make the bed more comfortable.

I like the idea of removing the sofa sleeper and adding the standard twin size mattress and making a daybed style couch. I 'think' the old style daybed bolsters are still available, too. Funny, as I get older, it is all about comfort. 35 years ago, hubby and I could sleep on the floor.

Again, thanks.

Sheila

Hi, Pam & Steve.

Thanks, I was wondering if the sofa bed in the 2075 was 66", but Steve Collins posted that the standard size sofa bed Sunline used is 72". Seems like someone told me awhile back it was 72" in the 2075, but I will confirm it with the Dealer to be sure.

Sheila

Ouch! That isn't long enough for most folks to stretch out on comfortably!

The sofa in my 2007 2075 has a 72" cushion and about 75 inches between the wall at one end and the fabric covered board at the other end.
My step daughter is 5'7" or 5'8" and has slept on it w/o complaint. But she's still young enough to tolerate more that some of us more "mature" adults

Yep! Our grown kids prefer to bring their tents rather than 1 of them sleep on the sofa!

I'm not sure hubby could sleep on the sofa bed without a lot of padding because we are "mature seniors".

sofa bed/daybed

Hi, I am the person who posted about changing our sofa bed into a daybed--we love it. I used a camper twin mattress for the "seat" and actually am still using the original back of the sofa-it sits in place nicely! but we are now thinking about doing away with that and selling the whole sofa;I will make a new back to replace it with removable cushions. This has solved my 'pain the back' issue--just sitting on those sofas are tough when you want to watch a movie or such for a couple of hours! And it iis great to stretch out on! Jan P.S. pics are of it as a daybed--and then our present setup--either one is great!

As you can see, in both I have used a quilted bedspread in place of upholstery--however,I am going to upholster it once I sell the sofa.

Hi, Jan.

Thank you so much for posting the pictures. You did an incredible job!!!!
I, too, have terrible back pain issues. Actually spent two years unable to sit up, stand, walk, for more than 15 minutes at a time. I am on meds now that ease it and Neurologists are still trying to diagnose the cause.

Still, I am a die-hard camper.

When you make the new back, with removable cushions, I would love to see pics. I am amazed at your talent.

Sheila

sofa bed

Sheila,
Actually, the way it is now, the original back is not attached at all-just stays there in it's place. If we were to need it off, just lift it and stand it in the kitchen. In the first picture, there is no back-just throw pillows but that made it a bit difficult to sit back on since the seating space would be much deeper-so using the real sofa back solved that.
By using a camper twin mattress for the base,it actually gives you a bit larger seating area too!! One particiularly restless/painful night, I went out and slept on it the way it is (with the back left on it) and had a comfortable night.
When you do use it as a bed, you save a LOT of floor space too since it doesn't 'move' out! Jan

Jan,

I think if we get the 2075, we will have to replace the jack-knife sofa. Everything is on hold right now, because my Neuro thinks I tore the rotator cuffs in both shoulders. So, I am waiting for them to schedule the PET Scan.

I think you have a different type of sofa in your TT, than the jack-knife in the 2075.

After reading about the discomfort of the jack-knife, we figured we'd have to replace it anyway.

That's great to hear that with your back problem, you still get a good nights sleep on your modification.

Sheila

Sheila,Sorry to hear about your rotator problems..I had both shoulders injected for mine and it was entirely successful--took two minutes and in two days all my pain was gone and stayed away, a year and a half now!
I am enclosing a pic of our sofa "before" remodel of it..actually,I think they are all the same. The frame is screwed down with only four screws..then remove about four bolts and you have the back, seat, and frame all separate! Quite easy..I did it myself...if you need detailed instructions on how to finish it,PM me and I could call you back--I have toll free calling. Jan (By the way,the photo was after we had removed the "skirt")

Thanks, Jan, it's encouraging to know that if it is the rotator cuffs, injections may give me some relief. I'm so glad it helped you.

Thanks for the explanation of the way the sofas are put together.

Once we get the diagnosis form the Neuro, and if we get the 2075, and I need help, I will certainly take you up on your kind offer.

Sheila
