There's nothing inherently wrong with black rubber/EPDM for a roof; the vast majority of them are black. The only downside is that the dark color absorbs much more heat from the sun than lighter colors.

Not generally an issue with residential roofing with a traditional attic space, but a camper doesn't have that and would tend to get pretty toasty inside with no effective means of passively removing that heat. Having said that, there are white/light-colored coatings you can apply to alleviate that concern. The time and cost associated with that might make spending a bit more on white rubber a little more palatable.

Chiefcope,

I sent you a PM on this. I would not recommend a black roof on a camper. The heat issues inside are a large concern.

This is where I buy my Dicor White EPDM Dicor roofing. It has 2 layers, a white top reflective shedding layer exposed to the sun and a bottom black layer that is waterproof. $11.49/ft with free shipping. Make sure you use the pull down box to get the 8.5' wide material.

Ok we will go with white. We looked up on that site John and a 8.5 wide one is 11.4 a foot. And with free shipping worth ordering. Thanks for the help

You are correct. I didn't see the 4' wide and 8.5' wide pull down box.

$7.95/ ft on 4' wide Dicor EPDM

$11.49/ft on 8.5' wide Dicor EPDM

Sorry I mixed that up. I will fix my post mix up. Thanks for pointing it out.

John

I have a 1988 and the roof leaked a little bit.

I purchased flex seal in the spray paint can. I purchased the White. I sprayed a few cans on the roof and I have had no leaks for the past 3 season. I plan on doing another coating this spring.
