Question about a 2363

Hi- I'm new to this site and I am looking to buy our first travel trailer. Like you folks, I really like the Sunline quality and have been looking for a 2363. I had a phone conversation with the owner of one for sale, the owner stated that the only issue was that the tub had a thin crack in one of the vertical walls and that it was repaired. This happened 2 years ago while the trailer was parked in their yard (during an extreme heat wave)and has been fine since. The crack was repaired by drilling a small hole on each end of the crack and filled with an epoxy.Does this make sense
or should I avoid this trailer. Just asking because it is not exactly around the corner- a couple of hours away. Thanks.

Lou

I have never had a crack in my tub but the fix described sounds like the proper way to repair it.

The 2363 has a panel in the bathroom in the wall under the tub held by 4 screws. You may want to ask to remove the panel so you can see the wood floor under the tub and make sure it is in good shape. ... well, at least in 2002 it does ... You will also see a hole in the floor under the tub that has the P trap for the tub drain, that is normal.

Good luck, hope it works out.

Our 2005 has that access panel too. I agree, the repair sounds proper, but I would still look under the tub via the panel as Gene said.

Make sure the front luggage compartment on the driver's side is closed well and doesn't leak. I've seen some with issues, probably because people don't lock it, they just turn the lower knob. Water gets in the top of the door and you've got a mushy floor.

It is a very comfortable trailer to live in. We really like ours.

I know that type of repair is used for the stress cracks on the outside of the trailer. By drilling holes on each end it stops the stress cracking. Would make sense to repair the plastic that way also. Also agree to look at both inspection panels, one right by the tub and the other in the hall between the pantry closet and the electric panel for any signs of leakage.

Thanks for the quick replies! I agree that the repair was done correctly. I was more concerned about the crack even occurring, seems unusual. Looks like I'll be making a trip this weekend if the trailer is still available!

I agree the repair seemed to be done correctly; however, just what caused it???? The plastic should have been able to expand and contract with conditions if installed correctly. When you look in and under as others advised also look very closely at the shower pan surface (user side). Check for very small spider web like cracks (crazing). ABS looses it's polymers and becomes dry and brittle with age. Normal to most plastics.

Agree.

I wonder if the crack was an OOPS! and got blamed on "the heat". Maybe something heavy got bounced in the tub.

Also, because the bottom of the tub is above the floor there should be wood blocks under the tub to support a persons weight.

Gene, and bunjin- I'll be sure to follow your advice. Has there ever been a production problem by the manufacturer that anyone knows about?

Hi happyto camp! Welcome to the Sunline forum!I had a crack in the floor of one of my TT tubs caused by lack of support underneath the tub..I unknowingly bought it that way.And yes, there was a leak to the underneath ( I really doubt a vertical crack could cause much leakage unless the tub was full..?). Had it professionally repaired (and properly supported) and the process was as previously stated in your post. Now--big question--are you really going to use the tub for showering? We don't..never have..never will...in any of our many campers. We use the facilities at the campgrounds which are always roomy and much more comfortable...a pair of shower shoes and a bag with toiletries works just fine! I have always avoided putting any excess moisture into our units..we have a clothes rod in the shower area and a dirty clothes foldup hamper...curtain closed. We spend up to four months in the winter (in Florida) in our 2363 with the sofa made into a "permanent" bed..voila!!! TWO BEDROOMS!Works well for us anyway..Love our 2002 2363!! Have had much bigger units but this just works great for us..Hope this helps..Janalee
PP.S. A friend of our many years ago cracked his tub by trying to sit down for a bath and he was very heavy..they used the aforementioned process to repair and then never used it again so I dont know the results of that incident.

I highly doubt the heat made it crack. I have never heard of or witnessed that happening as shower walls are free to move some. Someone's elbow is probably the culprit. If you push some on the shower walls, they should give and flex like a semi-soft plastic. If they are hard and crackle, you will obviously have to replace the shower walls.

I too would have no problem with it as long as I inspected the floor under the pan to make sure that they repaired the leak soon enough. If you do use the shower and want to be extra sure, you could always put a bit of eternabond tape over the repaired crack I imagine even though it wouldn't look very nice.
