New Camping Season coming - what are you must have and wants

well folks --- we are starting to think of the upcoming camping season --- yes, it takes second place to christmas --- only 65 days still we head down to florida!

so now thinking of oll those things that i want to pick up or do for the trailer this year --- here are some hints ---> back up lights, maybe tank heaters, an autoformer, tire gards etc.

what are your thoughts on what you will be looking for in the upcoming camping season??????

Well lets see. Three more Maxx Air covers. A kingpin stabilizing jack. An LCD tv for the trailer. And the biggie, slide toppers. The latter may have to wait a little while. Gonna cost about $800, so I have to save my lunch money. I just bought a new front door and storm door for the house, along with a corn stove to help cut my contributions to the gas company. Soooooo the Sunline improvements must wait awhile.

Just a little tip, make sure to get a 3 point jack. I've heard many people say the 2 point jacks don't help much. The trailer will still rock back and forth. Once the trailer is sitting on the tripod, it won't move anywhere.

I need to start out by getting new tires.

Then my wish list is 12 volt jack, vent covers and wheel covers.

I asked Santa for two more sets (10 to a set) of Lynx Levelers and another set (4) of caps. We already have two sets of blocks, 4 caps, and two chocks. These "big boy's" lego blocks are absolutely great for all leveling and jacking chores. www.lynxlevelers.com They are easy to store, one set is less than 8lbs. and stores in 1 cubic foot of space!! Two caps will fit in the bag with ten blocks.

I also am looking for insulators for the roof vents (cold camping the metal rim of the vent sweats and it is right over the queen bed! ) and maybe a MAXX Air cover for the FANTASTIC FAN.

I'm amazed to see that so many of you have gone this long with out the Maxx Air Vent Covers! What do you all do if you're camping in the rain and it gets stuffy in the camper?

I dont think we could live without these babys and have them on all our vents. It was the best $25 we spent per vent!!

As for what i would wish for, Kitty stole my answer

I would also like to sign up for the pre-paid gas card. 40k would be fine I think it would hold me out for awhile. I would also like to get some max air vents. Our tt get so hot in the summer I would love to exhuast some of the heat while it isnt in use. How do you attach those things?

The Maxx Air Vent Covers come with clips to attach to the vent shroud. Installed in minutes, and you can leave the vent open all summer long.

I think we left our bathroom vent open for a few months straight and even while we drive down the road just to exhaust the hot air out during the warmer months.

I see so many campers without them, and cant seem to figure out how they camp?

As for the 40k gas card, that would only make a dent in out adventure

We also have the Maxx Air Vent Covers and leave the vents open all the time the trailer's in storage, both summer and winter. In the summer I leave the vents full open, in the winter I leave them open ~1".
Summer it helps vents the hot air and in the winter helps vent the moisture.
The only time we close the vents is when we're camping and running the A/C or furnace.
The Maxx Air Vent Covers is the first thing I installed on all 3 of our Sunlines.
Like Pat, I would never have a trailer without them.

Well, since we already have MaxxAirs, (put on two days after the photo below) and our camper is still new, it has no character.

I wish for some character for "Unnamed", and maybe an axle flip and a surprise to be named later...

Our other Sunlines had the MaxxAir vents, just haven't got around to putting them on the fiver. I bought two already, just need two more. If I would have thought about it I would have taken the 3 off of the 295.

For next season or sooner which ever comes first on the T310SR

These are the ones already in the upgrade sequence, and in the basement/shed waiting to install at a moments notice. The moment is defined as, above freezing, no wind, rain or snow to line up with a weekend. Which could be while…..

The upgrades already lined up and waiting…..

The Truck
Upgrading the F350 receiver to a Class V
Upgrading the WD hitch to allow tongue weight to go above 1,200#
(These 2 will allow me to actually put something in all the front bed room closets and drawers we have. )

The camper
All 4 corners of the TT to get down spouts.
Replace all 3 defective roof vents with new Ventlines. Sunline had a bad year in 2004 with roof vents. They are shot under the Max air vents there including the steel trim part.
Install a Turbo Max fan in the bath room. (Use as whole TT cooling fan)
Upgrade to a Flotec VSR variable speed water pump.
Install water purifier at the kitchen sink
Install quick connect water system blow out setup.
Install tank sprayers in both black and grey tanks.
Install fresh tank water fill filters.
Upgrade center post cabinet door to having swinging post for easier access.
Adapt 5# propane carrying deck on battery holder.

Over the spring time.
Total brake and bearing inspection and rebuild as needed.
Different slide prop rod setup.
Correct enclosed tanks setup and install tank area air temp gage.
Upgrade fresh tank suction piping and larger drain setup
Transfer T2499 and install rear cargo boxes.
Adapt both T2499 outside cooking tables to this camper.
Upgrade battery shelf for a Group 27 battery.
Fix NDS gutter to not leak black streaks all over back side of camper.
Correct power converter fan issue. This one has the older style converter and the fans are bad sounding like a freight train….
Plexiglas or Lexan screen door upgrade.
TT Frame painting
Fridge fan in roof vent over coil system and replace brittle roof vent.
New design awning cover when not camping. Start with 6" PVC sch 10 pipe

These will keep me busy for a bit. Probably about mid summer. It took me 3 years on the T2499 to make it to most of these and now I can start over. Cool!!!

John

John, that's quite the list, I felt anxiety just reading it...LOl

Looks like you might as well enclose that new parking space so you can get on it and get to work.

The Max Air vents were the first thing we did to the TT. We did that and the put a better shower head in at the same time.

Wish list

I'm starting to think about an electric tongue jack.
Water purifier setup.

Ooooh....lists:
1) need to design new awnings and check out the awning rails for them
2) rewire the interior 12v system and get a new battery
3) new tires, bearing repack
4) I really really want a 1980s-era yellow Igloo cooler to match the Sunspot, but I keep getting outbid on eBay (grrrr!)

And a healthy 2008 wouldn't be a bad idea.

Good holidays, all!

Eman and precorguy

The “list” is just a jump start to get the new T310SR camper up to the same place our T2499 left off for the most part. And that took me 3 years to get to that point, so I have to catch up quick.

Then there is the “list – 2” to take it to the next level. They will fit in during non camping down time.

Looking outside right now is it 20 degrees, wind about 30 mph and snowing. Burr…winter is in full swing…. And my shop is not heated plus I have so much stuff in it to get out of the weather I can’t get started on some of these even if I wanted to. So we just sit and plan and do cyber camping, like typing this note.

These “projects” are very therapeutic for me. They are my escape from work and only take 2nd place to the 1st escape. Camping!!! Dreaming them up, some from scratch, some building on what others have done and some just reproducing what are on some other brands of campers.

One mans work is another mans pleasure, or something like that…. I think the original saying was one mans junk is another mans treasure but it sounded good so I used it… LOL!

My DW Cindy is into this too. Just she is more in the sewing and crafts part. She wants to fully move into the T310SR bed room that has tons of closest and draw space but I have to upgrade the truck receiver and hitch first to hold up the added tongue weight. She is still trying to figure out where to put stuff. I told here, don’t worry dear not matter what we do, we will rearrange at least 3 times this year until we get it “just right”.

Now to the pictures. Sure glad to share. About 1/2 of my upgrades have come from seeing some ones else’s handy work that I can build on. Glad to give back. And I have a number that I have done on the old camper I never posted up yet but will do. Sounds like a good winter cyber campout kind of thing to do.

So until the weather cooperate just a little bit, we sit and wait….

Happy Camping

John

John:

i am envious as to being able to spead time working on trailers - i would love to do that --- but for one - we don't have the storage and/or garage that i would tinker in and we don't have the disposable income for this type of thing.

we are still working on the house --- replacing windows/doors, finishing the basement and my partner is an avid gardener --- the back yard looks like better homes and gardens.

anyway - best of luck with all the work John and i hope that the weather co-orperates soon for you.

if possible, please continue to post pictures of your modification - love them!
