Jack knife sofa-suggestions for comfort
Those who have the jack knife sofa, what bedding do you use to make it sleep more comfortably? I thought about getting some type of mattress topper to help cushion it and hopefully help make the gap between the seat and the back that exists when the sofa is laid flat less noticeable. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Rip it out and replace it...
Actually, the only thing that seems to help somewhat for me is to use a foam egg crate pad, folded over once, in the center of the couch. It's a little less noticeable this way, though I still seem to gravitate toward it during the night.
Folded up blankets may make the gap feel smoother, but it won't be any softer.

I thought about getting maybe a 2" memory foam topper instead of the egg crate foam. I wonder if the memory foam would be too heavy and if it would help disguise that gap.

I think you'll find the memory foam would be an issue outside of the gap. If you were to roll off of it slightly, I think you'd really feel that seam between the couch and foam. But staying on the foam, I don't know if it would make it seamless. I think you'd still feel it. Memory foam seems to collapse easily, so I think it would contour to the shape of the couch and make it worse. Maybe you'd need to put a blanket or something down in the gap and then put the memory foam, maybe that could cover up the hardness of the blanket.

You could try one of those "Gap Fillers" that you can buy for when you convert 2 twin beds into a King bed, or maybe some upholstery batting rolled up into a small "log", but as Jon said, it still won't make the sofa feel any softer. How about just using one of those "Air Beds" on top of it ?

Mattress
We happened to have a foam mattress from a sleeper/love seat size couch, that we take out, roll up, and bring with us when we go camping.
At night we put that on top of the folded down sofa. I can't speak for DW, but I am not conscious of the "crack" in the middle that way.

LOL That was the 1st thought that came to my mind too....
Actually DW likes sitting on the couch. And she even naps. But sleeping on... I agree attempting to fill the gap then maybe the memory foam over it. With the way my back is, I prefer to take my Thermorest from the back packing days and sleep on the floor as opposed to that couch. I could sleep on solid rocks with that and sleep well. Can’t say the same for the jack knife sofa.
Good luck and if you find a combo, please post. This is a common problem.
I think Tweety found something with doing something with the cushions. I could never figure out exactly what she did. Maybe PM her in case she does not see this post.

OK.......
Now.... we use the Jacknife sofa bed in the HiLo, and it indeed has a large crack. Our solution has been to purchase a few kids' "noodles" used for summer fun, and lay them in the crack when we make up the bed.
I sleep on that part of the bed, and have been well satisfied with the result. There IS one caveat. I sleep on my back. Having worked for government for 35+ years before retirement, I am not overly sensitive in that area of the body.

Some good suggestions here. I'll have to give them a try and see which one seems to work the best. Thanks for all the tips. If I come up with something that works well, I'll be sure and post it. Thanks again!

Hearing all the issues with the Jackknife Sofa, I'm even more convinced that was the best option we had on our coach...Replacing the Jackknife with the sofa bed

The sofa bed that came standard in our 5th wheel is SO comfortable. I don't care to ever sit/lay on another jack-knife sofa.
Good luck finding a comfortable soulution

That most certainly was the best decision! Now if only I could find a Granola version of one...

When we had the T-2075, the jack knife sofa was very comfortable. Better than the bed. With the 264SR, the jack knife sofa isn't even comfortable to sit on, let alone sleep on.
