How to remove screens

Hi, I have a Sunline Solaris T2553 and am having trouble removing the window screens on the road side and back of trailer. First summer with it and can't figure this out. Help!

What year is your trailer? Are the windows sliders or jalousie?

Sides are jealousies. Trailer is a 1999.
Thanks for replying .

I have jalousie only on both my '83 T-1550 and '96 T-2053. They are square frame windows and the screens fill a good portion of the frame. I know the 1550 have little tabs screwed to frame (inside coach) and pivot up to hold screen in and pivot down to let screen be removed. Very much like screens on an aluminum storm door of one's house. The screens would be pushed from outside (ideally with windows open) moving them into the coach.

I'll check when I get home later tonight.

I would expect that over the years they are pretty much skin friction locked in place as they normally wouldn't be removed and the elements just like to bind things together making them tricky as well as possibly tough to get out. I'm sure they are rather flimsy once out of the framework.

Removing screens

I removed the front one with no problem. Just pushed up and pulled into the trailer. The side ones, not so much. Just don't see any way, although I'm sure there is one, to get them out. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Well I looked at my trailers last night and got an eye opener. The little tabs that pivot doesn't seem to do anything. What I thought was a parting reveal is actually an integral part of the frame. From what I can gather the frame has to be removed as a whole unit. The screws are square socket heads. The screen is caned into the frame.

I don't know if this helps or not.

On my 85 the little tabs don't do anything. To remove our screens we had to:

1. Remove the knob that you turn to open the jalousie window. There is a screw in the middle of it.

2. Remove all the screws around the frame from the inside.

3. The screen and frame come out as one piece. You can replace the screen, from what would be the outside, mine looks like you use the round plastic rope stuff like on a screen in your house.

We had to take our front window out recently to repair a leak. Removing the screen was the easiest part of this chore.

Hope this helps.

You said it perfectly! The rope thing (installing) I believe is called caning.

Thanks gang, after reading all the comments,I can't see me doing this anytime soon. The only way I'm going to go through all of that is if the screen ever needs to be replaced.

Thanks again!

They are just tight. Get a small screwdriver or butter knife to get in behind them to push them up. They just snap in.

To y'all with the square windows and tabs- I'm told those are for storm window inserts.

Sunline Fan,

Thanks for the feedback. I thought as much on the storm glass aspect with the tabs but was going to keep it to myself as I hadn't seen any place where anyone had used them.

Storm glass would be handy for cold weather camping with the jalousie window.

You should post some pictures. It could be helpful in answering your question as well as for others once a solution is acquired.

I haven't messed with any of mine. I now know that it is a matter of removing the frames.

Your issue is reminiscent of the pain my Anderson casement windows in my house can be. the crank handle is a real pain to maneuver over, both going in or coming out.

on 1988 T1550 -- Must Remove Window Control Knob and Screws

Just to affirm -- this is also the same procedure one must use to
remove Screens on 1988 T1550:

On my 85 (and 99 T1550) the little tabs don't do anything [They actually can be used for storm windows, but they do nothing related to screens].

Helped me a lot!!!

Thank you!!!
