Help in Identifying Model of 1989 Sunline

I own a 1989 Sunline with a tag saying T 170 on the side near the door.
However, it does not seem as though Sunline made a T 170.
Any help on the model?
VIN # 1LC2S1G21KD178239

Welcome Country Rose!

I'll see if I can help; your VIN is certainly a Sunline. The first 3 characters of 1LC were for Sunline.

The Sunline VIN did not state what model, but it does state a range of length which is 16-17 ft long as measured from the tow ball coupler to the back bumper.

Not exactly sure where you saw the T-170, as Sunline did over the years truncate some numbers once in a while on the older campers.

Sunline made a 1989 Saturn T-1700 in options A & B, which does line up with the camper length range of the VIN. The A option is a dinette booth seat at the table to the left of the entry door. The B option was a swivel rocker in place of the dinette booth seat next to the door.

Not sure if you know, but we have sales brochures of many of the Sunlines here on our site in the FILES section. The 1989 brochure shows the floor plan of the T-1700. Look and see if the floor plan aligns with what you have.

You must be logged into the forum to get to the files section.
At the top of the forum are tabs; look for the word "FILES" and click it.

Once into the files section, scroll down to the "Sunline Brochures" section. Go in there and find a sale brochure for the 1989 campers you are looking at and download a copy.

NOTE: There are two brochures for 1989 Sunline. There is the Sunray brochure, a new line of campers they introduced, and then the full line of Sunline campers brochures. You want the full line of Sunline campers. Look on page 11 of the PDF for the T-1700.

Let us know if this sorts it out for you. We have a member Sunline Fan who is the guru of the older campers and can better explain the T-170 to T1700 truncation. He, I am sure, can explain the mystery.

Happy camping this season.

John

I'm so sorry to bother you again but, I looked at the floor plan for the 1989 Saturn and it does not match my camper.
I have a dinette to the right of the door.
To the left I'd the stove, then double sink, then double bed.
Next to the dinette on the opposite side from the door is the bathroom, then refrigerator, then clothes closet, then back to the bed.
When I bought the camper it just had a homemade bench where the dinette is now. I took out the bench and built a dinette.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
The lady from the bank is trying to get the model but all she can find are model numbers beginning with M.

Hi Rose,

From your word description and the length of the camper in your VIN, a Sunline Saturn T-1740 fits that description. Have a look. Your description fits that T-1740 perfectly.

I'm not sure what the T-170 you saw looks like; if you can post a picture of it, that may help. By chance, maybe a digit somehow missing from the tag you saw, like the 4 digits?

Regarding the bank lady and the M series, I suspect she is looking at the NADA RV guides costing website. JD Power acquired NADA, and they now host the used autos and RV values. This is the link to the 1989 Sunline pricing. https://www.jdpower.com/rvs/1989/used/sunline

If you look, the older NADA campers all start with an M; we do not know why they do it; the M was "not" a Sunline practice. The NADA site adds the M on other manufacturers as well. For Sunline on the NADA site, find the right camper section and then the 4 digits of the model number, and it will give you their average pricing.

Sunline used, T = Travel Trailer, F = Fifthwheel, and C = truck camper as the letter in the model number.

Not sure what the bank needs the model for, but you can print out a copy of the 1989 Sunline brochure and take it to them.

Hope this helps

John

Rose,

If you need to post a picture, here is some help in case you need it.

There are 3 ways to add pics.

1. Upload pics to a specific post attaching them at the end of the post.

2. Linking them in from a public viewable web photo hosting service you have.

See here for 1 and 2 https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post86041

3. You can upload pics to the forum in your own personal photo album. Then link them to anywhere in the text of a post. See here on how to create an album. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post87945

If you still get stuck, let us know. Pic's go a long way in helping show things you are working on, and we like seeing Sunline pics!

Thanks

John

1989 model T170

We have a what we were told is a 1990 T170. The VIN is almost identical 1LC2S1G21LO178629. The layout is the same as you described with table to right of door and sink to left.
I think I attached pictures

Hi Ilean826,

H'mm, You have the StarRay logo on the side of your camper picture. The Saturn T-1740 brochure shows the layout as was described, but the StarRay may be something special. Thanks for posting the pics.

I have sent a note to our guru of the older Sunline campers, Sunline Fan. He may be able to shed some light on this. He is the person who gave us all these old brochures from his collection.

Thanks

John

I connected with Sunline Fan briefly on this as he was tied up. The SunRay, later called the StarRay in 1988 and 1989, can have a T-170 camper with the same floor plans as some Saturn campers, such as the T-1740.

If you look at PDF page 15 of the 1989 catalog (pg 30 on the catalog), the T-170 StarRay does show up. This brochure https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/d...o=file&id=5494

Sunline Fan will be along to explain more on this, but I wanted to get this out that the T-170 is a real Sunline.

Hope this helps

John

Hi Ilean,

Yes, that looks correct for a 1990 StarRay T-170.

Sunline introduced an entry level model called the SunRay in 1988, with similar floorplans to the regular Sunline models. They just had less content, less fancy furniture, etc.

For reasons I don't know, the SunRay line was discontinued in 1989 and replaced with the StarRay line. The StarRay trailers were introduced in late '89 and continued through 1991, carrying on a lot of the same floorplans as SunRay and the same value-minded strategy.

Welcome Rose,

This VIN looks to line up with being a StarRay T-170, although the exact floorplan or model name is not contained in the VIN. The Saturn T-1740 is basically the same floorplan but since you have the model tag, we know it's not the Saturn version.

If you need any additional identification help, please let me know.
