Full gray water tank and leak.

Appears my gray water indicator was not working correctly last weekend. The tank indicated 2/3 full but as the wife was rinsing her hair she told me the tub was not draining very well. I figured the tank was full so I went out and drained the tank. Indicator still read 2/3 full.

Later I walked by the bed and felt damp carpet. I removed the access panel under the tub and found some standing water.

I thought when the gray water tank was full it would only backup into the tub.

Is there some type of vent under the tub or do I have a connection that is not water tight?

When we left I used a flush king on both gray and black tanks and the indicators of course when full then.

I was a little nervous with the gray water as I did not want to have another leak.

I dried out as much as I could and have left the panel off. I live in Florida and mildew is always a problem

Gray tank leak

Hi Mike,
I normally keep my black and gray valves closed all the time. Between myself and the wife I need to drain the gray tank about every 3 days, however there have been times when the gray tank fills up and it does back up into the shower first. You will hear a gurgling sound in all the drains. If you are getting water on your floor I would say you have a leaky connections somewhere.

Good luck finding it and getting it tightened up.

Mike,

I agree with Big Shoe. If you can, check the fittings on the trap of your shower drain. The trap fittings were loose on our kitchen sink drain, which caused it to leak.
Since you’re shower was draining slow and the gray tank level gauges only reading ¾ full, I would also check for a clog in the drain.
We have a rubber drain strainer that we place over the shower drain that keeps hair from going down the drain. I’ve tried to find a picture on line of it, but so far with no luck. I’ll keep looking and if I find one I’ll post it.

Here's a picture of what we use over the shower drain to help minimize the amount of hair and scum that gets into the shower drain and gray tank.

It works great.

Good luck

I don't have any suggestions for fix your leak, but here's a little trick to keep the indicators working. We put a couple gallons of fresh water in the gray holding tank and a gallon in the black when we leave our site so that it sloshes around in there on the drive home. This seems to clean the sensors. When we get home Steve empties it with a 5 gallon bucket.

If you have a stubborn cleaning problem in the black water tank, toss a couple of bags of ice in after filling the tank about 1/3 full, and then go for a drive.

The ice, being solid, tends to remove stuff from the sensors better when the motion of the trailer stirs it about. It's not hard enough or abrasive enough to damage the sensors, but will clean them.

Hi Mike - Sorry to hear about your leak problem. We have an '04 T2363 which would be very similar to the '07 model. I'm having a problem right now with ants so have pulled off all the panels to track down the source of the ants. When I read that you had a leak of grey water that got into your carpet, since I had the panel off next to the tub, I looked in that area and it seems that in order for the water to get to the level of the floor, there must be a leak at the junction where the tub drain attaches to the vent pipe going up through the area to the roof. I would check all those fitting from the tub, trap and attachent point to the vent pipe. The grey tank itself is mounted to the lower level of the frame which is several inches below the floor level so I would not think there is much possiblity of the water coming from the tank. I know that when we first received our trailer, the fitting to the kitchen sink was cross threaded at installation, and thereby leaked until I discovered it. Fortunately, I was able to thread the fitting on correctly without any further leakage. Keeping an eye out for water leaks is an ongoing effort and the sooner they are caught and corrected, the better. I also would set an electric fan by that area that is damp in order to get it dried out as soon as possible, before the "smells" can develop.
Good Luck
Jim

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I did a quick look yesterday after work and the connection to the tub drain only turned a little.

I will check the vent connection next.

I am thinking the only real way to test it is to fill the tank at home and see if I can find the leak.

I did put a dehumidifier container in the bathroom hoping it would draw out some of the moisture left.

Of course my luck it is a very hot week with the temps in the high 90s. So far no odors

We also live in Florida. The wife being anal type has a dehumindifer in our trailer 24/7. She doesnt want any mildew or mold working it way in to the trailer. I must say it still smells like the day we bought it. I have been in some boats with cabins down here and it can be quite a eye opener or should I nose opener. She owns a cleaning company she can keep everything smelling fresh except me.

Mike,

We had a leak in our shower on our previous Sunline.

The leak was coming from around the sides of the shower drain.
We put more plumbers putty around the drain and it stopped the leak.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Funny you should mention shower leaks. The '07 257SR that pulled into Buttonwood on Sunday for storage had a shower leak. When I went over there to promote the club, he explained that the shower pan leaked in a corner by an access panel. He took it off and can't find anything. I told him to join and post that!
