I had an '86 1550 many years ago. From the pictures you posted, that's what you have.

Yes, shore power was in the left rear, underneath the refrigerator in a cabinet.

Fresh water tank and pump was under the stove.

Thanks for the slide show, that was very helpful. I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion re a converter..we are starting from scratch here and there are several brands on the market..Also, is it best to locate it in the manufacturer's location or would it be better to put it up front closer to the towing vehicle battery ??

I would recommend the Progressive Dynamics power converter. They are very good and very friendly to your camper battery and have a good warranty program.

I have the PD9200 series which is just the power converter that powers up my existing 12 VDC fuses bus and 120 VAC breaker panel. PD9200 Series RV Power Converters

They do make a PD 4500 model which is a power center. It has both the good power converter with charge wizard and the 12 VDC fuse holders and 120VAC circuit breaker slots. All-in-One 240V, 50 Amp AC/DC Power Distribution Panel

Here is the pic post of my PD conversion when my American Enterprizes converter went out. http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...rade-8888.html

I bought my converter from these folks and they gave me good serivce and good pricing. Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power Converters

To your question on where to mount, the original location is OK and works for the normal RV'er. If you are going to get into high tech, high power battery charging, then locating the converter as close to the battery with very large charge cables is the preferred method. This is if you are wanting to pump 50 plus amps into your battery. What are your battery charging needs?

Hope this helps

John

Thanks John. Since we are working with a stripped down interior, we'll probably mount the converter close to the front. We purchasd a Boondocker 45 amp and a distribution panel but hubby is unsure of how to connect the two..this is a huge project for us first time owners..and we need all the help we can find,
Happy Thanksgiving,
Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Do you know which model number converter and power distribution panel you bought?

I tried looking up the Boondocker and it specs out as a good converter but I have found a few power distribution panels that can come with it. Is yours a combined unit or 2 separate units? They seem to offer them 2 different ways.

Let us know what you have, even take a pic and post of what you bought and we can help suggest how to set these up.

And Happy Thanksgiving to to two too.

Thanks

John
