cigarette lighter socket above sink?

Can this be used like a cigarette lighter socket, as in i have something that you plug into a cigarette lighter socket and it runs. I plugged it into the socket above the sink but did not run? How can i tell if it's getting power to that socket above the sink, it has a little switch and looks to be a small red light?
Thanks
Steve in Ct

You could use a 12v tester on it but if you don't have one, try a charger such as a cell phone charger or a dvd player plug with a pilot light.

The little switch/red light is your TV antenna booster. It has nothing to do with the 12V plug.

If you were to take the entire plate off the wall, you'd find that it's a circuit board behind there. So if the power goes to the booster but not the 12V plug, unless it's an obvious break somewhere, it could be anything with the circuit board or elsewhere.

I think Paul's method is the best way to test it.

Just to make sure, do you have a battery on the front of the trailer? It may not work with just the converter 12V output (and no battery) because it may not be sufficient enough. I don't know if it really matters (never tried it before), but it may be worth a shot if it still won't work for you.

Ok the little red light never came, not that it mattered. Hooked up my gps to it and that red light never came on to say it was working, i didn't take the back off it yet, i'll do that today.

Steve, might also check the 12V fuse panel.

Send a message via AIM to quaddriver
btw - I am 99.99% sure you meant can the socket be used like a cig socket such that cell phone chargers plug in, but I want to state the obvious that it cannot be used a cig lighter socket where you plug an actual cig lighter in....that will allow you to test your fire insurance.
