Carpet Covered Board?

In the back bedroom of our 1995 Sunline Solaris is what appears to be a piece of carpet covered wood where the back wall meets the floor. I want to replace the old carpeting with new and would like to know what this covers and how difficult it is to remove without destroying it. Any suggestions welcome.

I do not know your exact floor plan, I did looked it up

I know of the rub boards and I have undone them. In our case one of ours was on the back wall about 4" tall up the wall and 2 ft long. The rug board in this case was a protector for a fold down table. When the table was down the metal fold up leg would rest against the rug board instead beating up the wall board paper.

Yours may be a protector of some kind if it is original from Sunline.

To get them off....that can be tuffy until you figure out how they attached them.

Feel in the carpet for screws buried in the fibers. Ours was not really in a pattern, more like hap haphazardly stuck on with screws.

The screws in mine, which you could not see they were buried in the figures so well, I back into were one of them was my pulling on the board, somewhat flexing it a small amount and getting a general idea of what area, "something" was holding it to the wall. Then I felt around in that area and , surprise I found a screw head that takes a square bit. After the 1 screw the board flexed a little more and I could find the next one.

Soon I knew better how to dig in the fibers to find the screw heads. When I found the last one, the rig board fell flat on the main floor. Easy then...

To give you an idea of this, and how carried away with the screws they can get, see this rug board from my slide. It was holding down carpet from being pulled away from the wall. See the small board at the wall line

Now to the screws

The rug board itself

Hope this helps

John

I wonder if it's concealing a coax cable over to the TV shelf? Rather than run it through the wall.

I am scratching my head on that one. I have a 2363 but there is no carpet coverd board there in my 2002 vintage. I have learned from Jim&Bev that not all vintages of 2363 are exacly alike .

It could be something like what Sunline Fan posted. The method JohnB posted may find some burried screws. Seems like ALL the screws Sunline use were #2 square head.

True enough; all 2363 models are not alike and I have learned a few things working on ours. I will find out soon enough just what's behind the board in question now that folks here have pointed me in the right direction. After some thought it occurred to me that, since the quarters are tight between bed and wall, the board serves to keep from poking one's feet through the paneling at the bottom. Thanks to all who responded.

Wouldn't you know but there was nothing behind what was a piece of OSB covered in carpet but the seam where the wall joined the floor. Four screws hold it in place. Bedroom has it's new carpeting and spouse is pleased. Hopefully that will be it for awhile as far as projects go.

Wow, only 4 screws??? Which really is all that is needed. Seems once they reached the 2004 models, the screw count went wild....

Glad it worked out and spouse is a happy camper!

Shocked me too but it was just as well considering the lack of room available to an old guy like me.

Nice piece of information...I just finished the dinette area with rebuilding the floor etc...I washed the roof in preparation for inspection and maint...and when it dried it seems to have pulled the top outside bracket up from the vertical top piece of siding on the back...The area behind that backer board you speak of , is soft as is the area on the roof a couple of feet from the back of the camper...Soooh, I guess I'll start by taking that board and a half section of back bedroom wall off and see what and why....Hopefully I can get away without a new roof...I ordered tape , dicor 501, and kool seal..The rest of the camper seems in order except for the rear wall and that 2 foot section of roof....Now I know a little about the backer board..Soon to know something about the roof...Thanks Dave
