Battery keeps dying T-286SR

I am a full timer in a 2006 Solaris Model T-286 SR. I am plugged up to 30 Amp. The battery ran down two weeks ago. Replaced it with a new battery. Now two weeks later the new battery is dead. The lights brighten and dim randomly until the battery gets really low and then they're just really dim. When the AC kicks on the lights brighten up for a second then go dim again. When I first noticed this was when the AC felt like it was struggling to start up. Usually it fired right up in blew air pretty strongly now it takes about double the time. It's still blows good but the start up is sluggish and when the battery was at its lowest the AC would sometimes not kick on at all. I'm pretty blind when it comes to the electrical system on this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Your convertor is dying. This is exactly what mine did when it died.

You have two electrical systems in your coach. The 30 amp 120vac (volts alternating current) power goes to the outlets, a/c, microwave, frig, and powers the convertor. The convertor produces 12vdc (volts Direct current) which pretty much runs everything else. Charges battery, Lights, radio, slide, control voltage for frig, a/c and furnace. (This is why your a/c didn't run when there was no 12v)

You most likely have a WFCO 8955 power center, behind the black cover there should be about 5 standard house breakers, this is your 120vac power distribution. There will also be approx. 10, 12v auto type fuses, these are for your 12 volt power. One of the 120v breakers feeds the 12v convertor, make sure it is not tripped, but you will need a new convertor.

This is what I replaced mine with:

Boondocker Main Board Assembly for WFCO 8955

If you are not electrical savay, I would have someone replace it for you. I did my own, took about 3 hours, but I'm an Electrician.

This is a three stage convertor and you'll find it will maintain your battery much better than the original.

You sir are the man!

I was leaning towards that but with my limited knowledge I just wanted to make sure. I appreciate it

Yes on the converter but the AC should not be affected. The lights dimming would be an affect of low DC volt when the AC kicks on. You may want to look into a hard start capacitor or maybe just a new one for the AC that may help it start easier. Camp ground voltage is not the best so when every one is running their AC it might struggle to start no matter what you do.

I also used the Boondocker to replace the WFCO 8955 when it went bad. Same problem
with the lights that you are experiencing. The Boondocker has been in for a year and a half, and is working as designed!

Waiting on converter to come in. Second battery just went dead after 3 days Couldn't get AC to come on at all with dead battery. Checked voltage coming out of 30 amp plug, it's 129.8 Hard start capacitor sounds like a good idea, if battery doesn't effect AC maybe something else is not letting the AC come on with a dead battery.

That AC voltage is high you sure you have that right? If a 130 volts is correct you need to contact the camp ground owner that is high enough to damage electrical components in your camper including your new converter. The controls for the AC could well be 12 volts so a dead battery may not allow it to come on but it would have nothing to do with the compressor starting or even the fan other than the thermostat every thing else is 120 volts.

The A/C needs 12v for controls, so no it won't work with dead battery/converter.

I agree with Mainah, 130 vac is way too high! Even though the convertors have had a high failure rate, that voltage is a problem.

My 1996 T-2053 doesn't have the battery installed. I'm connected to my house "shore power" and the AC works just fine. I'm guessing that the needed 12 volts is coming from the converter or with-in the AC control.
