1994 T-2670 - how to evaluate for possible purchase?

Hi all,

There's a '94 2670 on Craigslist in my general area for below $5K... I'm really hesitant to buy a 17 year old TT, but is is a floorplan we like, weight would work well with our TV, and it's cheap. Might be a good first TT for us... What should I be aware of, and check out if I go see it? The ad says (in all CAPS ) "NO TIRE KICKERS" so maybe I better not actually kick the tires (maybe they'd fall off??) but hopefully the guy's gotta realize that a 17-y.o TT needs to be inspected before purchase

Thanks again everyone!
Will

Hi Will

First you realize you are considering a 17 year old camper and every thing may or may not work. That can be fixed as time goes on.

However the one biggest thing to look out for is water damage. Pending how good or bad it is can turn into a total rebuild. All fixable, and easier if you are wood building handy, just more time and $$. Look for any signs of water stains or soggy feeling. Bring a step ladder and look over the side all the way around for sides for cracks in the chaulking or a big patch. Then look inside in any area that are suspect.

Good luck.

John

I'll second that...as the owner of a 27 year old trailer, with lots of replacement parts, I can tell you everything is an easy fix EXCEPT WATER DAMAGE !!

Also don't neglect what your nose tells you. A 17 year old Sunline does not necessarily mean a lot of headaches/repairs. Precious ownership with good maintenance or lack of will determine the worth of the rig. Open EVERY cabinet & cubby hole - look, feel & smell. Tires, YES check them, "IF they are over 5 years old and/or showing any signs of cracking on the sidewalls, they WILL need to be replaced so keep that cost in mind. I was still camping in a 1986 16' Sunline in 2005, so age is really relevant by how well it has been maintained. Good Luck, "if" I still lived in Jersey, I'd offer to help you check it out, I KICK TIRES !!!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I did call the owner today, and he said that there is a "ripple" above the back bunks, but he has re-caulked the seams on the outside, and resealed the seams. He ssid that he hasn't had any leaks that he knows of, but he's only owned this trailer for the last 1.5 years. So who knows... If we go see it, we'll bring a ladder for sure.

Thanks,
Will
