1981 Sunline 16.5' Travel Trailer Restoration Episode 02

Episode 2 of our restoration/remodeling project on our Sunline trailer. Almost to the point we could camp comfortably. Need to resolve a few more items and we'll be able to go for a weekend trial run, hopefully in May.

Wow, you are moving right along! Great job!!!

Looking good.

Just trying to help as you learn your way through this. Your video stopped before the awning was fully braced in place and don't know if you know, there should be a bar that creates the top of the triangle to keep the awning from collapsing under wind against the trailer. Also it is not recommend you unhook the bottom and have the leg standing up on the ground under the awning tube. Keep the lower arm connected to the camper. A good number of campers tried this and the wind caught it and up and over the camper the awning goes. Several of my camper friends have stories to tell about this. It all happens in about 20 seconds when a high wind comes through.

See here. While this is a newer awning, yours should still have a top bar that goes from the roof to the awning tube. We also hold ours down to the ground as this is a 21 foot long awning. The bigger they get the more the wind issue happens quicker. By tying it down, it gives us a little time to get to it to put the awning up if we get caught in a quick moving storm.

You are doing great on your restore. Looking forward to the next work up date. That stove looks amazing!

Thanks for sharing

John

Thanks John! I was wondering what those braces were for. I didn't get a user manual or any camper introduction, so I'm figuring it as I go. Great help.

Your making good progress!

I’m amazed how well the stripes/decals look. When I got my 1996 T-1700 most of the decals and stripes were in bad shape.

Looks longer than 16 1/2 feet to me.

I assume it’s 8 ft wide?

No problem, when something comes up that looks, well how are ya supposed to do that??? This is the place to ask that question. There are no dumb questions here on Sunline Owners Club, only ones you need help with.

The RV awning can be quite a challenge to put up and take down if one has never done it before. It is not intuitive short of getting fingers pinched or yourself hurt. Once explained and understood, well that's how they do that...

Thanks

John

Looking really good!!

Now you just need some original hubcaps to finish it off!
