1977 15SC travel trailer questions

New trailer owner, need some advise.

I am going to remove my plumbed toilet to replace with a composting toilet. I am wondering what these two brown pipes are for and whether or not I can use the one right next to the toilet to put my ventilation fan in.

We are going with a simple urine diverted and bucket system.

Thank you!

I guess I don't understand the attraction to a composting toilet when this one is here already hard plumbed.

The two pipes pictures are "stink" pipes. They are vent pipes for your holding tanks. You should have black water tank for the toilet (which is probably built into the floor riser) and then a gray water tank for your sink water. Rather than vent out the side of the trailer where you can get foul odors, they vent out to the roof with a plastic vented cap to keep rain out. Most newer Sunlines conceal these pipes within the walls, but the older Sunlines didn't have walls thick enough for that.

If you remove the toilet and the black tank, you could use that vent pipe for negative airflow from the trailer. Unless it needs to be powered at all times or you have a fan already, there are little windmill type fan attachments made for RV stink pipes that you could install to help draw air out.
