I installed one a year ago. It works fine, MUCH CLEARER pictures than you get with cable at the campsites. We now never use the campsite cable. But don't expect to pull in distant stations, you will get stations up to Appox. 30-40+ miles away. You will NOT get stations 60+ miles away.

I don't have one but have heard from people that have used it and for the most part they are pleased with the results. Installation is easy but make sure there is space for it when the antenna is "parked" on the roof, it sticks out an additional 10 inches on one side. The gain is only for the UHF frequencies which is where most but not all digital stations are located now. The Wingman will make the standard RV type Winegard a bit more directional and reduce reception from the back side which helps reduce problems with reflections causing cancellation of the signal. Remember with digital it is either perfect or nothing, no "ghost images" like analog.
I don't think you can go wrong for the average price around $30.
Good luck, hope this helps.

We added one last year, and Steve did the add while we were at Claytor Lake State Park in VA, which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Without it we were able to pull in a few stations. After he added it, if I recall correctly we got an additional 4-6 stations and much better clarity. They were all stations out of Roanoke, which is ~50 miles away as the crow flies. The difference was amazing for $30.

We installed one last year and find the picture was much clearer. We also found we were able to pull in more channels with the it than without it.

Here is a website you can input your state and zip code and see a picture of where to point the antenna for each station. It does take a minute or so to create the picture.

John,
Point it the same way you did before you installed the winegard wingman. That's what I did and it works great.

LOL... Well my prior technique was to rotate the position until I picked up something then tweaked from there. Since the TT could be in any postion of 360 degrees I never knew there was a so called direction. But on the new digital TV this is more painfull as we have auto programming of what seems like a zillion channels...(OK maybe only 400 to 500...) and in a new area I have no idea what the local channels are so we think we have it right and then let the thing search it's heart out. If we come up with zero channels... some times do, I rotate the antenna again and start over.
Is there an easier way in the new digital world of TV's?
Thanks
John

This was also my technique. I did however notice this new SensarPro TV Signal Meter that Winegard is coming out with. It looks interesting and depending on the reviews when it is released, I can definitely see adding this to our trailer.

John,
I am not sure if you mean you never used auto programming before?
I ALWAYS used auto programming from day one.
With the auto programming now I get maybe 10-40 chanels all acording to what location i am at.
So, rotate the position until you picked up a channel then use the auto programming, then tweak from there. If need be.
PS..if there are other campers in the area start with the direction they are using, that usually works..

The addon Wingman element with the 2 crossbars points in the most sensitive direction and the backside is less sensitive.
Here is the Wingman addon to the Winegard
{backside - less sensitive side}
{most sesitive direction}
You may need to do 4 scans, 90 degrees apart to find everything in a new area or look a where everyone else is oriented and do 2 scans 180 degrees apart.
The confusing thing with the new digital channels is that the indicated channel is not the real channel anymore. example Channel 10 (WJAR) in Providence really transmits on UHF channel 51 so you can't set the TV at 10 and turn the antenna unless it was memorized on a previous scan.

Hi Joe
Thanks! I know this may sound comical... but, this is the issue we have.
1st let me take a step back. Prior to the digital conversion we had a Sony that had a zip code mode and that feature was fantastic. Since each campground has some kind of address you at least knew the zip code. Enter it and then everything in that area was programed in one step. OK I know that is now history...
The problem is where to start with the auto programming? I must admit you gave me a new option that never dawned on me before. DUH!!! look at where everyone else is pointed.....Never thought of that. So that will fix 50% of the problem. The other 50% which use to be 100%... is we are in an area by ourselves which is somewhat common or it is night when we arrived and can not see where any ones antenna is pointed. I get what you are saying about find one channel then auto program from there but is there an easier way to start the process? Or maybe it is our brand TV??
When we turn ours on we get nothing until it goes thru auto program. So I have to sort of guess with the antenna up, run the auto program and it may find a few stations. Then Cindy flips thru what we get and says, we are missing 2 or so of the national channels. Well OK again I rotate maybe 90 ish degrees and let it runs auto program again. It is hit or miss if I get more or less. This thing goes thru 100 channels in at least 4 different modes before it get's to the end. It must burn ~ 5 minutes each time to run the entire program.
OK that's the method good or bad. How can I improve on it for when I cannot see everyone else or no one else is there?
Thanks
John

Thanks Bill, Please report back if you get one and does it work?
At the price I think we may just stick with watching a DVD.... We really do not watch broadcast much in the camper but on winter campout's we do pop in a DVD when it is 19 degrees outside....
Thanks
John

Thanks Gene.
Now that is dawned on me to look where everyone else is pointed....LOL I'll see if I can use the wingman direction to help reduce the hunt and peck mode I use to use....

There are some good amplified omni-directional antenna that take the guess werk out of which direction to use and wondering what chanel you might be missing. I use one inside my house in Sebring and get chanels from Tampa and Fort Meyers. Sometimes good reception and sometimes not but the antenna is inside the house beside the TV. I'm sure would do better outside, or on the roof of a camper.
I like the satelite best though.

John, my experiences auto programming our Samsung are the same as yours, so you're not alone. I also try to get one good channel and then do the rest. I may miss some by not rotating and trying again, but mostly don't feel it's my loss If you're camping in familiar places, certainly you should get all the channels you got before digital. If you're in new places distance and terrain can make a huge difference.
Then there are some interesting satellite options in recent Highways and CW magazines. If you're looking for your next big project...
Henry

Thanks for all the imput ,for 30$ if it helps one or channels when were board at night or want to see weather it sounds like its worth it. Its just not much use for it in the day time as long as your in a good park with the nature trails and lakes along side a low camp fire that's much better to watch than tv anyway right . Man thinking of that im ready to go now one more month and i cant wait . Thanks for help and great camping everyone .

John,
I know what you mean about waiting for the scan to complete, sort of like watching paint dry
Try using this site before you go, TV Fool , it only needs a zip code and you can save the printout to see the direction, real and virtual channel numbers, and distance.
I do like to catch a morning news and weather report before we head out for the day.
