Water Heater Repair! Done!!

Previously I was whining about a water leak in my Sunny. I did get everything dried out, but could not find the leak. I enlisted the help of my lovely wife and naturally she found it right away. In the back, under the bed, the water heater.

The project, repair of replace the unit. Could not find one to buy other than a unit in California for over a Thousand Dollars. Not happening. Did find a great source for parts. PDX RV LLC (pdxrvwholesale.com) They had everything but a tank. After many reassurances I was told that Amazon had the very thing. Nope, they did not. My unit is combo gas and electric so I had to return the Amazon gem.

Next step was to try welding it. We have a great welder we do lots of business with, so I took him the tank. He knew immediately what it was as he usually gets 5 or 6 of them every spring. That was nice to know that I was not the only fool in the RV world. He rarely sees them in the fall. He did a great job, very affordable and fairly quick.

Got busy on the bench and rebuilt the water heater, and it works great. Learned much, especially to make sure I really drain the water system properly. Remove that darn nylon plug out of the unit!!

Water Heater Repair 2! Done!

When removing the unit the 100 was hard wired into it, making removal a challenge. Made an appropriate change.

Only real challenge is I am a large person and got stuck in the access hatch trying to disconnect water lines and such. To avoid this, I had a smaller friend reconnect the water lines and plug the unit in.

The pictures are:
1). Unit with cover off and gas line disconnected.

2). All frame screws out and deflector off.
3). Back of unit showing water lines and 100 box
4). Unit out, the moisture was from the water lines during removal.

5). On the ground, ready to head to the bench.

6). The nasty crack in the tank.

Pictures attached to this thread.

1). Unit welded up, new water valves and heating element.

2). Back done with new cord for 110.

3). Power connector in trailer. Bypass for water showing. It was removed.

4). Finished unit on the bench ready for install.
