Drained the hot water - need new tube!

Finally got winterization done this chilly 25 degree morning. Had drained the potable water tank, opened all the faucets a while ago, but had not done the brand new hot water tank. Imagine my surprise pulling the sacrificial rod/drain this a.m.! Already got a new one ordered.

Had company last weekend, and one couple stayed nice and toasty in the Sunline. Just like having a spare bedroom!

Put anti-freeze in all the traps best I could.

Gotta go vote. Hope y'all have a great day!

Frank

Wow! That's intense for just one season. I remember selling a lot of anode rods when I worked at the dealer, but I didn't know how long people usually got out of them.

My parents have the original anode rod in their fifth wheel which just finished its' 3rd season. It's full of water for about five months a year, but always in the same place. The rod looks almost like new with very little deterioration. Must be in the kinds of water...

I'm sure it's the water Jon. We have terrible well water here, and a major water treatment installation in our basement. It eats up stuff in the house (sinks, toilets and such) regularly. On the other hand, it seems to be great for our house plants. Years ago, I had a reverse osmosis system installed under our kitchen sink. It works great!

Nevertheless, this amount of rapid deterioration sure surprised me. I assume if it broke off inside, over time it would just dissolve?

Higher mineral content = higher electrical conductivity = higher electrolysis of dissimilar metals.

The anode is designed to sacrifice itself to save the working parts from electrolysis.

Replacement of anode's on boat motors in the salt water around here are almost always an annual maintenance item!!

I'm sure that's it Mack. When we first got our reverse osmosis installation under the kitchen sink, I started watering house plants with it. Pretty soon they were all doing poorly. Back to tap water and they were all doing great again! No question we have lots of minerals in our tap water, and that is what was in the tank. So, yes, this will be an every-year thing.

hi frank_a,

since you replaced your smaller water heater tank, i'm guessing it was a 4gallon...? i'm in search of a pilot assembly for my 4gal (1985 unit) and thought i'd check with you, if yours is still intact.

thanks,
noralee
