Does you heater have both gas and 120 volt electric or only gas? ?I did not decode the model yet at this point.

H'mm something does not seem right, or maybe it is your use, our 6 gallon hot water heater does 2 showers with no issues or does dishes fine. However not at the same time.

Tell us more on your use that is not working out right?

From a cold water start, how long does the heater take to come up to temperature? And is it running on gas or electric for this time period? Ours on gas heats up and shuts off in about ~15 to 20 minutes. On electric it will take a little longer, about 20 maybe 25 minutes. On both at once, we heat up in about 10 to 15 minutes. All depends on how cold the water was to start.

It may be that your heater is heavily scaled up in side from hard water.

When you do get hot water, is it real hot? (140F)

Hope this helps. If you do need a new HW heater, we can provide links

John

Some have adjustable thermostats on the gas valve they are a bit hard to see because they are on the back side. I also have a 6 gallon one and its more than enough hot water. Does the flame come on with a good blast? Once mine is hot the water will stay hot over night with just the pilot light.

You could upgrade to an RV tankless hot water heater. Continuous supply of hot water.

No I don't have one. They are getting more popular. We get plenty of hot water from our 6 gal. Normally just run on electric but when shower time comes I flip on the gas for faster recovery. There are only 2 of us normally.

Since only gas seems to be working, how long on gas does it take to come up to temp and shut off?

Any chance of a pic of the outside controls on the heater with the door flap down? We can then tell what vintage you have. A 2001 unit might have electrical controls and if it does then there are a few thermal switches which might be shutting it down early.
