Under bed storage changes.

Lots of space under bed thats not used very well and difficult to get to, so here is my solution.....

Built new bed "end" support with additional storage and access under bed area. Shelf area is designed to hold 3 pair of shoes on each side.

Pic with old solid end removed, before addition of new end.

Hey Joe,

Yet another wonderful mod to your Sunline. It has to be great having the shop & tools to do that type of work. You made very good use of all that wasted space under your bed.

I have twin beds, and I have plans to take a look under my beds to see what & if there is usable space under them. They have a drawer in them, but I'm sure there is more usable space, as you discovered with your mod.

You must be a professional carpenter because you make it look so easy and the finished product looks so good!

I know if I was to tackle this same project, something I've been looking at for some time now, mine would take me two months, and the end result wouldnt look 1/4 as good as yours does

Really nice job. And great idea too! This one is very doable. Your floor plan allows easy access to that bed area. I have a front bedroom with a center bath and the floor space is more limited to get to that front but, you do have me thinking.

OK do you have a router or a dado to cut those slots in the end boards for the shelves. Or did you just saw them out? By the looks of your shop, I would say you have about all the wood working goodies....

It might just take a full day of touring this M & G.

Only thing is, how do we stay at the camper to show off when we are out seeing everyone elses???

I just thought of the idea, didn't say I knew how we could accomplish it

Maybe someone else can figure that out

schedule times, or a group tour going from one rig to another, that way the owner could show their mods when we reach their rig, yet they would still be seeing all the other mods ?

keep looking there is alot of "dead" space in these things. I found a couple of other dead spaces that I took advantage of with small mods, but not very much to see so I did not make a post.

Now thats funny, I am far from a professional anything, let alone a carpenter. I'm a printer for a living and thats about as close to a professional as I get at anything. As for carpentery I'm a "weekend hack" with just a few basic tools. The couple of mods I posted were very simple with very simple jointery. If your ever in the Rochester NY area, let me know, you can back into my driveway and I'll help you with the project you've been putting off. BTW, I've read a little of your website and life style on the road, fantastic...now thats professional!

Yes, I do enjoy these type of projects. I did a bunch to my previous trailer too. Just trying to make our Sunline more specific to the way we use it, which is organized, packed, and ready to go!

I used the table saw with dado blades. I did these few mods really fast with the simplest of construction, trust me the pics dont show all the imperfections. I was going for fast, cheap, and light weight.

Hey sunnyseagull,

The bed storage width outside dimension is 48" wide and 15 1/2" high.

The new end I built is 45 3/8" wide x 15 1/2" high as it fits inside the 2 side walls. I framed the 2 side with maple to get a finished look and fill out to the 48" wide.

The shelfs are the same width as the drawer depth behind them 14", and the shelfs are 4 3/4 high each.

The doors are, 2 @ 14" wide and 2 @ 8" wide, by 14 1/2" high.

I used 4 pieces of 4' alum. 3/8" C chanel for the door slides.

The fixed drawer is 23" x 34" x 5".

Hope this helps if you choose to make one, or some form of it. Let me know if you want greater detail....I kinda "farmer engineered" it....made it up as I built it, but I have more detailed pics I can PM to you if you like.

Joe, thanks for the compliments on the website! Its fun and sort of keeps me busy as I have an addiction to work and suffer from major A.D.D.

I usually update it at night while Cindy's sleeping. Again, thanks for the great idea and I might take up up on that offer when ever we head East.
