Towing Box

I can't remember if I ever mentioned about our towing box before, but we used to have a towing box that held almost all the towing equipment in the 2653. I remember when my Dad and I built it probably in late 1997 or 1998. It was designed to fit just behind the third seat in our Navigator.

I continued to use it through all my Sunny's, and it always had the same Draw Tite 750# round bars in there. I never bothered to put the 1000's in there from the 270, but I never really went anywhere with it.

Now with the 286 and 1200# trunnions, I knew the bars wouldn't fit due to the bar design, so I thought about building a new one. After the trip to Buttonwood and using trash bags, I knew having the box was a must. I decided to modify the old box by removing the round bar inserts and making new trunnion ones.

The box has quite a bit of history. It became a gathering place for bumper stickers of places we've been. This way they didn't have to go on the coach and they would last almost forever.

Here's some pics of the completed box with the bars in it. I cleaned all the grease off while working with them, but I didn't put it back on for the pics:

2 WD bars or two katana swords... needs more diamond plate, hehe! just kidding.

Very nice and well built. I'm a big fan of fitted storage, especially for items only used in transition to/from camping. Tucked away and protected from bouncing around and the weather.

Thanks for sharing.
Take care,
Jason

PS. I saw the Franconia Notch State Park sticker. I just listed our timeshare on ebay for a yearly week in Waterville Valley, NH, about 15 miles south of there. Beautiful scenery and a lot to do, we just haven't used it since we left NE a few years ago.

I like it. I've always wanted to get stickers of places weve been but don't want them all over the TT or TV. That's a great idea.

That's a really good idea. Keeps them out of the way when they arn't needed. Since we went through a spell where we traded coaches about every 1.5-2 years Amanda and I keep all of our "memory stickers" on a piece of plexi glass. We also have a piece with our "See All of America the Beautiful" map on it. I got sick of putting a new one on every coach.

Nice box. I have to come up with something for the F350. I'm still getting use to being converted from a SUV tower to a PU Tower. Both load different.

The WD bars use to go in the front cargo hole in the T2499 along with the hitch head. But now on the T310 neither the bars or head go in there. I'm going to have to be creative as my hitch head now has a 2 1/2" shank and weighs more then the 2" I use to use.

Your box has sparked some ideas. I just have to figure out where to put it along with everything else under the Tonno cover....

Thanks for sharing

John
