Securing the sliding table in a 2499 when open

I searched and could not find anything. The folding/sliding table in my 2499 is pretty loose in the tracks and slides pretty easily. Too easily. When it is set up it walks back and forth in the track if you lean against it even a little. Even more exaggerated with the leaf in it. Anyone come up with any tricks or mods to prevent this?

Three hinges with nylon slides. Is it just a matter of tightening them or is something missing? It looks like a nylon sandwich that could be tightened, I just want to make sure before I break something.

I do not recall anything you can tighten on ours. The hinge you are showing looks like there are pop riveted to the plastic slider block.

That said this pic shows the track as being extra wide, too wide like it is sprung open.

If you look, the plastic slider has a lot of play. It looks like it is sprung open about 1/16 to maybe 3/32"

Do you see the gap I am referring too? If not, I'll down load the pic and put and arrow on it.

Being the table is long with the leaf, the prior own may have yanked it by accident when it was up and it would pull hard on the track springing it open more. I have a foggy memory of having to compress my track some too.

If you have some type of caliper or tape measure even, measure the track with end that hardly ever gets used and then the width where the problem area is.

It may be as easy as compressing the track slowly and evenly to close up the excess space. Use a pin board or something so you do not mar up the finish.

Hope this helps and good luck.

John

It was dark and the flash lit it up for a millisecond, so I'm not sure if they are rivets or square drives and are able to be tightened? I'm just guessing that because there are two pieces of nylon that they "clamp" the horizontal edges on both sides and cause friction. Not sure. I'll look tomorrow. If they aren't able to be tightened and the track is bent, I should be able to use some water pumps to coax it back into place. I'll use some plastic shims to protect the finish. Thanks

I just wanted to see if perhaps something was missing like a lock-down clamp or something?

My 2004 did not have a lock down clamp. I sort of wish it did.

I use to slide it up into the couch cushion when we traveled. You can see here it is still pushed up to the cushion. The chair was not set for travel but the table was.

As you thought John, not adjustable. Pinching the track helped a little, but still not enough for me. I could probably really narrow it down but I doubt it would be long before it loosened up again. I'm thinking of some kind of track-lock I can install on either side and lock it down so it doesn't move back and forth. Maybe an elliptical cam lock of some sort with a small knob or lever to lock it down?

If you can find a cam lock setup, that would be ideal. That might be a tall order though to find to fit.

Since you are handy with wood, ideally this is hard wood but pine will work too. Saw up a piece to slide inside the track and a piece out side. Use a small carriage bolt, or a flat head screw and counter bore the inside one for a nut to lock the screw to the inside slider member. Then a clearance hole on the outside piece and a wing nut. Put one on both ends. Might have to undo the table out of the track to slide in the inside one in place.

I almost made one like that, however the issue was tolerable enough if I recall right with the track pinch. At least on mine the pinch worked.

Now thinking about this, I remember why I did not do the locking slider. My wife was the couch person and I was the swivel rocker guy. To eat, we would slide the table out, she would get on the couch and then we slide the table towards the couch. This prevented shimming down the couch. If I had the clamp locks, then would need to fiddle with them each time getting in or out.

Don't know your situation, just passing along as that was ours and we always had to slide the table to get in and out, easily that is.

The T2499 is a poplar model. I'm sure others have wrestled with how to get in and out of the couch when eating at the table.

Hope this helps

John

The 2363s have had this same table design from the early '90s on up, and it has been a problem there too. Mine fell out one time while on the road. I just squeezed the track back together more and it seemed to be fine, never fell again.
