Replacing carpet with vinyl or wood

Has anyone replaced carpet with vinyl or wood? I am assuming that under the carpet is at least 1/2 inch plywood.

I am not looking for how-to-do-it info, just want to know if others have done it successfully without any major problems.

As always, THANK YOU.

We recently had a floor repair done and when they went to put the vinyl back in it had shrunk, like 1 1/2 inches from the wall. Replaced all the vinyl with laminate flooring and we love it. No issues with slide clearance and very easy to maintain.

I think vinyl would work well and look good too but I would think that wood could add more weight than you'd like.

I Did help rebuild the Prowler 33' for my friend and we added vinyl floor, one that does not need glue and it is easy to cut and we attached to the edges with some quarter molding. Looks good and did not add much weight.

Home Depot sells a product called Allure. It's a vinyl that comes in strips that interlock with adhesive tabs. It comes in different patterans from wood plank look to tile looking. Very easy for a DIY to install. No adhesive needed.

I'll second the allure from Home Depot as a middle ground between one sheet vinyl and laminate. We used the bamboo pattern interlocking adhesive type at about $2 a square foot I believe.

Install is rather easy as you just score and snap to size and complicated cuts can be made with a utility knife.

One thing I will say about the adhesive type allure is that it does not stay well over uneven surfaces such as the conduit cover in the bedroom of our 2753. I did find that shooting a small amount of superglue into the seem and pressing for a few seconds solves that.

The main downside is that it is pretty darn heavy stuff. I would guestimate about twice the weight of a comparable run of vinyl sheeting.

There are a few pics of the final result here.

Complicated cuts can also easily be done with tin snips.
