Very nice (and bright!) Kitty!!! A job well done. I never understood why Sunline (and most other manufacturers) quit using the lights with the BU lights. It seems like a safety feature that should be required by RVIA.

Thanks Jon,
All of my other previous Sunlines had the backup lights, but they were also ALL used units. Though the backup lights might not assist me with seeing, I mainly wanted then to warn others that I had ole Sunny in reverse.
And the additional light, on the "correct" side of the door works wonderful.
It was a long put off project finally completed.
Kitty

Are these just direct replacements that bolt on? I was thinking of going to an auto parts store and buying a few 55 watt lights and having them mounted under the rear bumper and wired into the back-up lights on my truck. It's hard to back up at night with no light back there.
Great idea Kitty
Thanks for sharing

Kitty,
Did you have to run a seperate line (electric) for those or is there a reverse already incorporated in the 7 prong pig tail we all already use. That is a really good idea. I was just about ready to bolt Baja lights on the bumper. Hee Hee. Thanks...............Marshall

The tail lights are "replacement lights with backup light" included, purchased at an rv supply place, They screwed right on in place of the original lights. The center pin of the trailer is "auxillary"(On my '06 T2499 the wire was run into the fuse box and just taped off). On my truck the center pin is factory wired to backup lights. Had to open up the "fuse box" on the front of the frame on Sunny. The center pin "did" have a line (yellow if I remember correctly) run into the fuse box, so all we had to do was add enuff wire to the existing line and run it underneath following the existing wiring to the rear of the trailer. That was all easy. Now, you remove the existing tail lights to expose the current wires. Then you must go underneath the rig, and guestimate where you should "drill" a hole to be "inside the wall". Once you have this hole drilled, I used a wire (actually my CB antenna mast) and poked it into the hole and (CAREFULLY) fished it up to the hole for the wires. I then taped a piece of junk wire to the antenna, and (CAREFLLLY) pulled it out the bottom. I then attached the new "reverse light wire to the "junk wire" and once again "CAREFULLY" pulled the new reverse wire up to the light fixture.
Remove old fixture, wire up the new fixture, test light then mount fixture to Sunny and waterproof it. Sounds worse than it was. Worst part was gettin' in the wall up to the existing fixture. I would keep getting snagged, so that is why I say "CAREFULLY". To test, just "jump a wire from the center pin on trailer plug to the positive terminal on your battery.
I hope my explaination is clearer than mud,
For the additional door light, I decided where it needed to be, "drilled" another hole in Sunny, ran wire inside of wall, spliced the new wire into the wire for the existing exterior light. Both lights operate from the same switch. OH, yea attach new light to outside of Sunny and waterproof.
As I said, I had help doing this but for you "guys" I'm sure you can tackle it.

Hey Kitty, thanks for clearing up the tail light question.
I'm wondering why you needed the extra light on the side of the door? The one we already have seems to give off enough light for our needs. Just wondered why you added another.
Great job and discription of how you did it all.
Thanks
Pat

Pat,
If you want to do that mod when you get back here, check out Isle 4A (A=left side), about the third or fourth rack back at General. That's where all the taillights and other lights are at.
The light with the bracket is currently $15.95 and the one without is $13.95, and then of course add on your 10% discount!

Thanks Jon, I might have to do it while I'm on the road so I can have that back-up light now.
Man I wish General RV was nation wide!!

Morning Pat,
The reason for the extra light near the door is because when the exterior door is left open, it blocks a good bit of the light. I was concerned that mom (82) was having trouble seing in the dark, and the fat old weiner dog really was having trouble seeing. With the screen door covered with plexiglass, the exterior door is almost always fully open so lighting needed to be better at the steps.
As to the new tail/backup lights, they are great, maybe a little time consuming to install, but well worth it in my opinion. I too thought about just adding lights onto the bumper, BUT, naw, I wanted Sunny to have originals
