New Flooring

I almost would rather have a tooth pulled without Novocaine than to do this again! However I LOVE the results!

First I had to pull up the carpeting which is a pain as Sunline laid the carpet and THEN built the walls Using a carpet knife at this wall was almost fruitless as there were many staples that were at the wall line. Soooo it was a tedious process of some cutting, pulling out staples and pulling out as much carpet as I could so I could get the tiles under the wall as much as possible

IMG_8475.jpg

When removing the the carpet covered board on the front of the trailer I thought it would be covering something, wires perhaps. Well guess what the large board was covering? Nothing! Yup, makes me wonder why Sunline used this big of a board?

IMG_8450.jpg

Because Sunline did not take the sheet vinyl all the way to the the front, I bought some cheaper vinyl tiles to cover the sub floor and I roughed them with sandpaper so the new tiles would stick. I also stagger them, laid whole ones and cut some so that the seams would not match up with the new tiles I was laying
IMG_8505.jpg

Apparently, I deleted the pictures of the whole process so this is what I did

1. After pulling up carpeting, vacuumed and washed the floor before laying new tiles. I kept the vacuum handy so I could vacuum during the process when needed to keep any dirt or debris off the flooring
2. Cut the small rolled rubbed baseboard with the carpet knife at the closet point to whatever it was against. Vacuumed behind the rolled rubber as there was a lot of dirt that accumulated
3. Laid the new tile
4. Used mineral spirits to get off any clue from the peel and stick tiles on the new floor
5. Washed new flooring with soap and water to remove any mineral spirits
6. Caulked the rubber base board back in place with clear caulk
7. Caulked most seams in the new flooring with the clear caulk
8. Used 1/2 in wood trim on the side wall, frt and jack knife sofa area

I have yet to do 6-8 steps but will get these done shortly so I can use her again however,...Drum Roll please ..... the almost finished project!

Looks great. We have a 2005 T-1950 and have been wanting to do the same thing. My DW loves your choice of flooring. Can you tell us where you got your new tile flooring and how many tile did it take. Thanks

Thank You.

I got it at Lowe's. It is Style Selections 12-in x 12-in Chalet Wood Parquet Finish Vinyl Tile and it took 3 boxes of twenty per box at .88 apiece It cost about $60.00 incl. tax

I did mess up on one or two so I have pieces left and the good thing it that you can buy them seperately to have some pieces in case you need to do a repair for "whatever reason"

That looks wonderful! I've been waffling over whether to do plank vinyl flooring or parquet when I'm finally ready to redo my floor. The parquet didn't looks so hot in the store, but it looks lovely in your camper. Now I'm even more undecided!

I always thought the big carpeted board across the front was to keep the table from scratching the wall when it is in the down position. So what does your table lean against when it is down now that the carpeted board is gone.

Thumbs up

Wow, that looks great! I just started tearing up my old carpet to repair water damage to the frame and floor. Laying "engineered" laminate front to back. I hope it looks half as sharp as what you've done!

Well I guess you just probably answered the question as to what the big carpet covered board was for! LOL!

I haven't had it really in stow position since I started the project I keep my camper plugged in my driveway and my table set because well..I enjoy it!
Sooo I guess I need to put the table down and test it and then come up with something if indeed the carpet board was to keep the table from scratching the wall...I don't want to put the carpet board back....Hmmm

Actually I thought about the vinyl plank flooring after I did the parquet! LOL!

I think either looks nice! I guess deciding might come down to which could be easier to lay in your rig
